amp not working

my subwoofer had no power to it , so i pulled the amp and noticed a blown fuse , after replacing the fuse and pluging in the sub a loud humming is all that came from the unit with absolutly nothing wired to the unit , so like i always do i tried banging the unit , the sub worked for about three seconds and now there is a loud fluttering sound , any suggestions

Well if you could hit it and it sounded ok for a couple of seconds, I feel you have a bad solder joint on the circuit board. If you could you could resolder the circuit board, looking for any area that gets hot.

Agree.. Flutter could be 60 Hz AC.

If the warranty's expired (or has been beaten out of it), take a look...
If still under waranty, call CS and they'll probably ask you to take a look...

I'd been using the preamp section of this receiver with my Adcom 5800 power amp until recently when I remembered I had an Adcom preamp collecting dust on top of my gun safe. I hooked the Yamaha back up to use as just a receiver and it played ok for several weeks and then I noticed a drop in volume to the right channel so I tapped on the volume knob and the volume returned to normal for a short time before that channel cut out completely. I took the cover off, looked it over and decided to try some contact cleaner on the volume control. I hooked it back up and it played just fine for about half an hour and the preamp quit completely. I can use the power amp side of the receiver just fine. What's most likely the reason for this? Broken solder joint or very dirty volume control or worse. Just an educated guess.......

What is the difference between DETOXIT that everyone here likes so well and regular contact cleaner?
