Best Web Browser?

So - over the past few weeks and my computer headaches I decided to try Firefox 3.5 over IE8 and Google Chrome.

What I noticed is that both Firefox and Chrome run slower than IE6 (which I've been using for the past few years) and tend to hog the system more.

Which browser are you using and why? I'm looking for a browser that is VERY low in system resources, fast, and doesn't hog the RAM like Firefox does.

For me Google Chrome has been the "lightest" as far as resources, as well as the fastest, but I"ve heard differing reports depending on teh person.

I still prefer Firefox over anything else; most customizable, and considering how much I use it that's the most important thing.

Google chrome is much better than it was a few months ago.
I use it most often with no issues. Much faster than
IE7-8

Firefox is ridiculously slow on anything less than a Pentium IV.

I switched to Chrome at home, I like Opera but never made the change perminent because of the way they handle the bookmark tabs. I like to be able to right click on a bookmark tab and choose open in new tab.

Chrome has been the default browser at home for over a month now.

How old are the computers you guys use? I've never noticed any version of IE being slow, currently running IE7 at home and IE8 at work. Too many pages don't display correctly with other browsers.

I've used Mozilla products since the old AMD Socket A days, and Firefox to this day runs great on my old Socket A setup from like... 2002.

I won't touch Explorer.

I have Pentium II's, Pentium 4's, Core Duo machines and Pentium D's at home. At school, a Pentium M and a netbook. The HTPC runs a Pentium D processor and the machine I use for video editing is dual core.

For word processing and general web browsing, I use the P2 and P4's.

I use FF for my main browser, and have for quite a while. Never use IE anymore. Too annoying.

I used Chrome a bit when it first came out, and really like it. However, since I switched to W7 64-bit, Chrome runs terribly for me.

Firefox on most of my machines, but you are right - later versions started to hog a system a bit (well, not my current system :p). Chrome looks like earlier versions of Firefox - lighter and faster. I tried Opera, did not like it much... and no, not IE, no, thank you.

I use Firefox on the Wintel machines and this one running Ubuntu. No complaints.

Chrome was quicker for me on XP, but FF felt better in navigation. On the daily driver with Win7 x64, it has been all FF. I tried the IE8 x64, and x86 versions included with the install, and they were quicker, but I'm completely allergic to IE.
Currently --FF 3.5? with No-script, Track-me-not, and a couple of other goodies. I'll give Chrome another spin after 7 has been out for a while.

Damn... Not a single "Safari" in the bunch... That's alright, even as a Mac guy, I still use Firefox... Itching to try Chrome for Mac, but I've been too lazy...

Sure isnt Explorer 8. That crap $hit a monkey on my PC and I ended up formatting my drive.

Firefox for me - but I run Ubuntu as an operating system - so Firefox is a given.....

and instead of google or yahoo for browsing - try http://www.ixquick.com/
greater privacy and reduced advertising

I'm with Roy on this one. Opera is a great browser, and it's the only one I use (unless I'm forced to use IE7)

Firefox here. There is absolutely no other browser for adequately powered wintel boxes.

You may want to try slim browser.

chrome. the only thing i cant stand is its terrible password management. ive got used to it though.

Chrome is speeding up for me after some use. I don't know why.

All I know is that it runs quite well on the Pentium II's and great on any of the newer machines!!

I tried both FF3 and Chrome and didn't really like either one. I also tried Safari 3.1 and IE8. Safari was pretty fast, but really slow to boot and IE8 seemed to really drag and was much slower than IE7. I ultimately just went back to IE7...and I'm still there.

I like Firefox. IE only when I get a site that isn't stable on FF. I can't stand Chrome.

I use chrome alot it seems to load faster and new pages pop up real quick. I go to 50-60 sites aday for research and don't have any problems.
