Have you done a search here. There are boat loads of info on the RD0194-1. Literally pages and pages of feedback.

Assuming you have either SL1000's or SL2000's, replacing them with RD0-194 will result in a smoother and less fatiguing sound.

Which Monitor 5 do you have? If they have Peerless tweeters, the RDO-194 would be a downgrade. Not to mention they don't fit without modification.

I have two pairs of mon 5 and don't know if I would want to spend $98 on tweets for them because I paid 45 for one pair and 15 on the other, but its your money and they will sound better than the sl2000's

I paid $35 for mine. Added RD0's and Clarity, Solen caps, Mills resistors, rewired, deleted fuses..........best damn $200 speakers I've ever heard!

    It's well worth it!

Ive done the rdo in everything else, my 2.3, 2,3tl and rta 11t's and it was well worth it, but the monitor 5's are just surround and eventually a garage system.

I hear ya. My 5B's are in a 2nd system (computer/office rig) and they get quite a bit of use for secondary system. To me it was worth it.

Is the RDO-194 a direct replacement for the SL1000 or do the crossovers need modification to work right?

Yes and no. It is the replacement, but the crossover may not be exact.

Take a look at what you have in there now and compare it to this: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/atta...3&d=1155784674

When I swapped out the 2000's on my old CRS+ speakers, the high end was much smoother AND the midrange had more clarity. I guess without all the high frequency peaks, it allowed the midrange to become more intelligible. Christ, is that even a word?

Totally agree...I just played two identical pairs of srs's and the one set I just picked had the RDO-194's....Big difference!!! Sounds awesome and more together, the old SL2000 are great but they tend to ring at higher volumes. The RDO's are a worth the upgrade if your like me and don't want to mess with the original speaker to much.

Not that anyone else need to chime in as the point has been made, but I have experience moving from SL2000's to RDO's in both SDA-2B's and SDA SRS 2's.

It was truly impossible to listen to the SL2000's at moderate to high volumes for much more than 2 hours. With RDO's, I listen now about 8 hours per day.

8 hrs of work + 8 hrs of music + 8 hrs of sleep = 24 hrs in a day.... sounds simple enough to me :D
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

My feeling/impressions of the RDO-194---somewhat laid back,, a tweeter with a much smoother,,almost "silk lined" pleasant to the ears sound,,a SL 2000 on xanax,,lol,,YMMV.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
