Looks like it'd make a good coaster for the coffee table. A bit expensive for that, though. :D

No plans on purchasing. Too rich for my blood. I've bought from elusivedisc before, so they send me periodic emails and this is something they're advertising. Just curious about it. That's all.

I'm not even sure HOW that would improve your listening experience. What does it have to do with the laser reading your disc?

Not with those, but I did have a Demat Disc Stabilizer that came with the Ah! CD player.

The weight of the Mat was said to create a greater flywheel effect, allowing for smoother rotation. Stray light was said to be reduced, and it absorbed vibration. IIRC it sold for ~$30. Can't say I heard a difference with or without it in the Ah!.

If you wanted to try something like that, Herbie's offers the grungebuster CD mat for $15 with a 90 day return policy. Or his Black Hole mats for $1 each.

That's right. I remember seeing the grungebuster on herbies a week or so ago when I ordered my tube dampers. Like I said, just curious if these things make a difference or not. If you couldn't tell Rich, then more likely subtle than not. Thanks!

I doubt that slapping a disc of closed-cell foam padding made out of Rubbermaid shelf/drawer liners coated with rubbery crap and stuck to a faux carbon fiber disc will do anything to help your system except make the CD/DVD drive expire prematurely.

CDs and DVDs spin at every fast rates. Thousands of RPM's. That's why they make so much frickin' noise. Dropping a pad on top does nothing more than work to put the CD or DVD out of balance, adds weight and, in some cases, can damage the loading mechanisms or even the disc it is meant to protect and improve. All that serves to not only burn the motor out but damage the guts of very expensive pieces of equipment.

Besides, if that pile of junk disintegrates inside the player, (and it will) you'll never get all of it out. It'll muck up the inner workings forever and ever.

    It's not worth it.

If you REALLY want to do something to help the CD or DVD performance, isolation trays do wonders. So does lining the inside of the case with Dynamat or other vibration dampening material. You can also put EM shielding in if you like. Although I think shielding a component from EM fields where the primary data source is a concentrated beam of light has dubious benefits at best but hey, at least it will keep the drive motors from interfering with other equipment near by!

Audio CDs are 200 - 500 RPM realtime. DVDs are 600 -1500 RPM realtime. If you copy a disc, you can increase the RPM to the thousands to reduce the overall operation time.

Perhaps the mat dampens the disc to reduce unwanted vibration or resonance reducing tracking errors?

I've tried a mat (not these) as well as a "Disk" and could not tell the difference on or off.
