Here's the short version - it stinks - don't waste your money.
Here the longer version:
Audio and Score:
DD 5.1 - nothing special here. There is some deep throbbing bass in the beginning but after that it's all down hill. Surround effects are minimal.
The music score is incredibly annoying, with banal and overly loud music theme clips that repeat over and over and over - it's like the audio version of Chinese Water Torture.
Video Transfer:
Anamorphic 1.85 widescreen look OK with progressive scan, but nothing to write home about. Black levels are not that deep and have a greenish hue occasionally. The image is overscanned, and the English subtitles (some of the movie is spoken in French) are slightly cut off at the bottom - talk about a hack job here.
Plot Line:
The plot so hackneyed and contrived that watching paint dry would be a thrill in comparison. The basic plot is a French female jewel thief who double crosses her partners and then has a chance to head off the United States and start a new life. The movie literally plods along with no direction or suspense and you don't really get to figure out the point of the movie until near the end, and then it takes on a surreal - two possible future outcomes - stance with a sappy twist.
After an hour, your eyes will glaze over and you will start searching for cracks in the ceiling and cobwebs in the corners - anything to keep from watching the screen. Brian De Palma should be ashamed of himself.
This movie is literally a singular excuse for Rebecca Romijn-Stamos to parade around in sexy clothes, partially and completely naked, showing off her admittedly stunning body. She does an awesome stripper dance, and also partakes in some steamy and graphic lesbian and hetero sex scenes. The chubby factor for these scenes is very high, and the erotic soft porn is the ONLY reason to rent this otherwise flimsy excuse for a movie.
Acting:
Flat out terrible all around, except for Antonio Banderas, who manages to (barely) inject a bit of his characteristic flair. Even then you could tell he was not having any fun whatsoever filming this turd. I loved him in Desperado, in stark contrast.
Summary:
Doc's Ratings:
Audio and Music Score: 2
Video Transfer: 6
Plot: 2
Acting: 2
Flesh Factor and Sex Scenes: 9
Only worth a look if you are a red-blooded male, and want to feast your eyes on Rebecca Romijn-Stamos writhing her way through several steamy scenes. Otherwise, avoid this bomb at all costs.
