The article raises an important question... Why is it that when business looks to expand or build new facilities, Uncle Sam comes up with TAX CUTS, but when they want to stimulate the economy they RAISE OUR taxes...

Agreed Obieone, you cannot fix stupid.

That is good news but it is only a shift of work from one end of the country to the other. What we needed was to have both plants open building and then we would have had a plus in jobs created.

There are no easy solutions....to this problem...Union or non-union global competition negates tax cuts and the use of non-union labor. I'm in China, currently and let me tell you the U.S. is NOT going to be able to compete with what's available here. So FORGET about 'your' politics....left or right....some NEW plan is needed.

The Chinese have an ENDLESS supply of cheap labor...ENDLESS....I was walking in Tiananmen a few weeks ago after the 60th Anniversary celebrations and there were MILLIONS of people in and around the square. It was difficult to move or even breath freely and yet the PLA (People's Liberation Army--Chinese Army), was able to clear that crowd in less than 20 minutes after the flag lowering ceremonies at dusk??

BTW, Walmart is Unionized in China?? Probably because it can afford to be? Even so a great number of Chinese workers who make products for the U.S. belong to no union in a country that CLAIMS to be Communist.

So much for unions and socialism...no relation anymore!

I agree with you SK Solutions. There's always so much negativity from a certain few here at Club Polk. I guess I'm the only one who is excited to realize that our economy actually GREW last quarter (3.5%) for the first time (aside from a small spike during the second quarter of 2008) since 2007. I know, I know...somehow certain naysayers are going to figure out a way to "blame" this growth on the failure of a certain majority party and president. But I don't care which party you belong to, thats good news for this country. And given that unemployment is usually that last economic indicator to show signs improvement, this is indeed a good sign that the worst may be over. Unemployment will get moderately worse but this is a good sign that things are turning around.

I totally agree with what you've said here. I just posted a good number, that our economy grew by 3.5% during the 3rd quarter. What I failed to mention was that the Chinese economy grew by something like 9% during the same period. As you've hinted at, China is way too complex to make any sort of generalizations. There's a sort of organized chaos at work with all sorts of inconsistencies, and despite all of the problems in Chinese government (human rights abuses, corruption, nepotism and an unwillingness to create a more pluralistic and transparent governing system) they have been masters at steering the macro-economy and gaining leverage over the U.S. over the past 20 years.

I'm glad I speak Mandarin and read Chinese :D

Not really......government spending grew, not the economy, which is part of the gdp. Consumer consumption, buisness investment are some others.Cash for clunkers played a roll also. I don't consider that a "turning around economy" by any means.

I do, with some qualifications. But I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

"Overall, however, most economists agree that the recovery appears real. Exports are rising, home building is recovering, and real-estate prices have risen for four consecutive months. Consumer spending surged 3.4 percent last quarter as well, the first advance since the third quarter of 2007.

But it's not clear that this rebound will follow the typical post-recession pattern, where sharp contractions are followed by large growth spurts."

One should consider that these few are simply regurgitating the comic views of the popular radio and cable news hosts we all know about. No original thinking involved, just repeating sensational ramblings of ratings whores.

So, you're talking to the minority, right?

Oh, I almost forgot. This is Club Polk. I mean, even polk is red.
