So many tags I could be adding to this thread right now... what a shame. :D

If you choose the Mustang and in the end feel that it's lacking a certain something there is no need to worry. You can get pretty much anything you want for it in the aftermarket to make it do whatever you want. Your options will be far greater as ohskigod has already mentioned.

THe new mustangs are nice and are my choice, but do yourself a favor and wait for the 2011 models. New engines.

In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to good analogue reproduction.

I took out a Z. No thanks. Not at that price. I'd buy a used Vette 1st.

Let me clear-this is Dallas. There aren't any "twisties" within a thousand miles of here. Also, a half *ssed back seat would be nice. The Challenger has one
that's usable. Mustang, better be hauling elves. I know the Mustang is
very tunable, but I'm over 50. No stoplight drags or other nonsense here.
And that stupid tilt level that hangs down. Getting out of the car means
ouch for me. Who designed that? Automatic- wife will be primary driver.
Yes, she's the one that want's it. Me? I'd buy a truck.
A couple of years ago there was both a 2002 Trans am and a 1998 Mustang in the driveway(two sons). The Trans AM was a pretty fast car. He tweaked
it for a lot more handling and more power.
Jag? Sorry. Anyone I know with a Jag are on a 1st name basis with their
    mechanic.

LOL true and the thing about elves that's pretty funny and true. But a truck I still do not recommend even in this day in age who can afford the gas for them. Very good points. But one thing is that ford is the same as jag the people I knwo that own them know there mechanics by name number and address.

Ford isn't the same as Jag.... Ford may own Jag, but it's hardly the same thing. The only true "Ford Jag" was the X-type.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Maybe so, but he still isn't getting the Z.

Personally I would go with the Challenger. I can empathize with the whole Dallas thing. If you want to really push your sports car around here in some twisties, you will have to go to a road course like the one off 377 south of Fort Worth. That being said, the Challenger gives you great performance and lots of style for not a lot of coin. Given that you have listed the few negatives about the Mustang and not the Challenger(at least from your perspective), I would think the Challenger is the right choice for you. Oh, and you have to do at least one smoky donut in it to break it in or it will never run right!!!:D

I would say the challenger dodge is more stable than ford. IMO Also if you watched top gear you can not do a burnout or doughnut with the automatic model only the manual.

Ford bought Jaguar in 1989. The cars built between 1994 and 2007 have been among the best built in the world, as recognized by J.D. Powers.... Ford sold Jaguar to TATA Motors about a year ago, and no longer is involved with them. I have owned Jags for the better part of 15 years now and with exception to my 1988 Xj6 I have had nothing but the best from them and have only needed to do routine maintenance.

That said, they are not something the OP wishes to consider, so GO Mustang! The V-8 motor in the Mustang were developed by Jaguar, so I guess that is a good thing.

Now if BAF would take the hint...

Thats a real strong point :D So tell us why ford is the only maker of the big 3 that is not in hot water financially? Do you or any of your family members even know how to take care of a vehicle? Routine maintenance? You said it yourself 'people have good and bad luck all the time with cars'. I would bet that none of those Ford cars were bought new, that has a large impact.
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

A couple of years ago the wife thought she wanted a Jag.
We test drove a couple. The entry level appeared to be just a Ford
in a nice dress. The regular line was priced way out of my league.
Quality improved greatly with Ford engineering. But still not up
snuff from what my son told me(his last job was setting rates for
extended auto warranties). The mid 90's model the friend had
ate money. The 2003 model seems to be a big improvement.

Camaro was a big dissappointment. Looked great, but driving it
was another story. Same for the Nissan. The Mustang was pretty good,
even with the V6. The Challenger was very good with the V6. I haven't taken the
V8 for a run. OF course, the Corvette was good. And a lot of the local
Chevy dealers seem to have a dedicated "Vette" guy. They own and know
every bit of trivia about the cars. Being a F150 owner, I was afraid I'd break
the damn thing. Going over the railroad tracks form the back of the dealer
lot to get on to the highway scared me. I really didn't wan't to tear it up.
With the F150, anything smaller than a VW wasn't much of a road hazard.:D

I know a guy, who has a friend, who talked to a fellow who had seen a review of the Challenger. They said it sucked. My sister has seen pictures of it on the internet and thinks they look really cool. I'm torn as to who I should believe about the car.

Just get a civic and throw some wings all over it. You can win a race with neon lights and aerodynamics that you'll never be going fast enough to use.

^^^^ As long as you have the prerequisite vtec stickers. The wings and such won't work properly without the stickers.

One thing about Dallas. You can test drive just about ANYTHING.
Don't like a dealer? dirve a few miles, there's another one.
I guess nobody else has has a problem hitting their knee in a Mustang.
Either way, I'm in no hurry. Sometime in 2010. There's even a fine selection of the Shelby's around here, since they build them locally.
But, once again, this will mostly be driven by the wife. I work out of the

I had a customer a a while ago in Cali that I used to service his Z-06 'vette. He told me of the time he tried to outrun the CHP. They got to just a touch over 100mph before he decided to let the trooper win and pulled over. The cop was pretty pissed as you can imagine, and my customer started the usual appologies. The cop asked him why he took off like that. My friend said that he was scared because his ex-wife had left him for a cop. The cop looked puzzled and asked what that had to do with anything, and my replied, "well sir, I was scared you were trying to bring that B!tch back!"... The cop laughed, having not heard that one before and let him go.
