Default How to decide NOT to order from an online audio e-tailer

I came across a company (www.speakerstereo.com) with a very good price on an item I'm interested in (found via thefind.com shopping search). But I've never heard of them, there's no BBB info, well, no info at all, good or bad.

So then I use Google maps to look up the address they list and what do I find:

    Hmmmm...there's no THERE there.

    Now THAT'S funny!!

I always first go to http://www.resellerratings.com/ which lists SpeakerStereo with zero reviews.

The satellite images from Google Maps can be up to a few years old, so if they have moved into a newer building or are a newer company they could certainly still be valid (and being a newer company would also explain their lack of ratings).

Also, Google Maps, while usually pretty accurate, isn't always the best with street numbers; sometimes as far as a block or so off (though I don't see any "blocks" in taht area at all!).

Not saying you SHOULD trust them, I just woulnd't base much of that off the satellite image.

EDIT : To prove my point, here's the streetview image for that address - magically a house appears! (Though, to your point, it doesn't look much like a thriving audio reseller business.... )

Yep, according to realtor.com it's a residential address.

But at least the company (which formed last august) is actually registered:

I guess they saw one of those infomercials for buying a kit to set up an internet reseller from your home office, complete with website and product sources. I always wondered if anyone sent away for those.

Looks like a bogus company that is set up out of a vacant house...
