    Default speaker recomdation

I have a 2 channel rig in my living room that I would like to up grade the speakers on.Im currently running rti8's with a 10" onyx rocket sub,I have two carver tfm 22/24 amps powering them in mono mode...plenty power.I want something with better bass and tweets that arent so bright, they need to be 8 ohm and close to the size of the rti8's because Im limited on room.I was wondering if paradigm,or b&w might offer something that I would like, any thoughts?

Do you want specifically more bass from your towers or your subwoofer?

    Also, what's your budget?

You can get some A7's or A9's and have bass in spades, but the harsh top end is probably coming from the Carver amps. Good amps, but getting long in the tooth for solid state, and not exactly known for sparkle.

Try unbridging the Carvers.....I found when they were bridged, the top end is pretty ragged.

Look into the Paradigms or Mirage, cant go wrong with either of them. Here are some for you to check out-

I emailed this one and they are Mirage OM-10's, he said he would come down to $125 each, so $250 for the pair.

I would recommend not mono-blocking and go with one amp running in stereo. Then I would add a 1 ohm resistor in-line with the positive lead of the tweeter and see if that gives you what you want.

You are killing your bass when you mono those amps and when you switch back to one amp, the bass will have way more control [end result....mo' better bass]. The resistor will tame down the tweeter. Total cost? Less than a dollar which is a whole lot cheaper than 1K.
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

I disagree, the bass is much better with the two bridged, much better.I never enjoyed listening to this rig much when it ran off just the single amp.I would like a little more punch when listening to rock tunes but I could live with it now,but these tweets will wear ya out after a while.Im tellin ya you cant compare the sound between bridged and stereo with this set up

That doesn't make any sense to me but if you are happy, that's all that matters.

Keith, did you contact the person in the first post I listed above? You should, if you have not and ask him how much for just the Studio's. The Paradigm Studio 100's will blow you away. You wouldnt have to bridge those amps of yours anymore, with the 2 sets of binding posts you drive the woofers with one amp and the tweeters with the other. Who knows if the guy isnt willing to seperate you could talk him down to the $1000 your willing to spend, and then sell the rest of the gear. If you sold the rest of the stuff on ebay, you would get at least $600 in return, I know its a pain in the ass but it would be worth the hassle. tom
