Banks and Overdraft fees

Sorry if the truth hurts. But take comfort in the fact that you aren't the only kid that was targeted by these companies. They KNOW that kids fresh out the house with their first taste of freedom means they rack up BIGTIME since most kids DO instead of THINK things through.

If I didn't have a mother who showed me the ropes of living within my means even when I still lived at home, and see for myself just how sleazy these card companies are I would probably been in the same boat.

Back in 82, when my Dad was dying of cancer, Mom wanted to pay off all of the high bills since she knew she didn't/wouldn't have that kind of money after Dad passed. She sent out 2 checks to one of the CC companies. They called her to say that they LOST the $1000.00 check & could she send them another!

Needless to say, Mom waited until she got her canceled checks back & sent them a copy of the CASHED check. Then told them what they could do with their card!

Does it not surprise anyone when our government is such a shining example to all on how to balance a budget. Of course we don't have the option of just printing more money.

Oh PLEASE Matt, This has nothing to do with the govt & everything to do with personal responsibility. If people lived within their means half of the problems we suffer from wouldn't exist & the people in govt wouldn't feel the need or actually NEED to intervene.

Most people are financial morons! You can't fix STUPID! And most businesses are greedy opportunistic untrustworthy aholes who will rip off thier own mothers to make a buck, and or cheat their honest customers, prey on the financial morons & try to cheat the govt!

ya i realized I was in trouble after I lost my job. But I did cut them up and start sending them the money. I have one cc that I did keep just so I can teach myself not to use it.

SOME people meet the above description. Too many...yes...but hardly MOST!

Again SOME fall into that category. But most businesses out there (and that includes everything from the Individual to the Mom & Pop businesses up to the Huge Multinational Corporations) are trying to make a profit for themselves, the employees and the stock holders. Most are honest and ethical trying to provide good services and products at a prices that will allow them to make a profit.

And in response to the person that called banks "parasites"...try operating in any industrialized nation/economy without financial intermediaries and see how far you go. Again...MOST bankers are simply trying to provide a service an make a profit. No more...no less.

...but In this day and age of rampant corporate bailouts and entitlement programs, our leadership continues to set a terrible example of fiscal responsibility for its citizens. Their utter non-chalance when it comes to their use of presumptuous money to fund their wayward behavior which does not go unnoticed by the people (to include the ones that lack personal responsibility).

I'm beginning to think that a basic course needs to be taught in schools on how to balance a checkbook....Nevermind that would mean that people would have to be responsible for themselves. Which will never happen.

They need to start teaching them basic math again first.

My dad never had a credit card.He always said if you can't pay cash,you can't afford it. Your story on the sleeze of CC companies is identical to what happened to me recently. I payed off a card,a considerable amount,only to get the "we lost it" or "never received it" response. So they in turn charged a late fee of 50 bucks. You could imagine my anger when I called my bank to get the day they payed the CC company,well within the proper time frame too.

I have nothing against credit card companies. I just know that they can't be trusted & it is up to ME to use my card wisely.

Therefore, I plan out big expenditures, I have an emergency fund just in case, and I always make sure that I pay off my cc balance in full each month. I only have cards that don't charge an annl fee. They are not getting one penny extra from me.

people should know that an overdraft charge at a bank can set you back a lot, particularly for those who have multiple charges. Even if those charges are only a few cents, you will get charged enormous overdraft fees. The very best way to keep away from this is to get a payday loan. It is much cheaper than overdraft fees much of the time and will help you defend your credit.
