Default 5.1 to 7.1 plus outdoor

Right now, my home theater is set up as 5.1. I plan on adding side surrounds to make it 7.1. I would also like to add a pair of outdoor speakers which can be operated independently. I understand I have a channel free on my amp to provide 200-300 watts but do not know if that can separate the left and right surrounds. How can I achieve my HT goal? I am a novice but appreciate all help that can point me in the right direction.

Does your living room have ample amount of space to support a full 7.1?

Sometimes more isn't always better, and a congested 7.1 setup will sound worse when compared to a properly setup 5.1 system in the same room. I'd say, reconsider the 7.1 idea.

flldtt, maybe I missed something, or I'm misunderstanding you, but you list an XPA5 and say you are running 5.1 right now. Where is this "free" channel on your amp? Do you have other amps? If I am reading everything correctly you will need 4 more chs. of amplification.

edit.... I see you list the UMC1 pre-pro, do you have this or are you prepping for it's arrival?

Apphd, you are right. I guess it was to early for me to think clearly. I am anticipating the arrival of the UMC within the next 2 weeks. Right now, the only thing plugged into the amp is the Lsi15's, and LsiC. The LC80f/x's are also waiting to be amped. The DSW is powered so I can skip the XPA-5, correct? This actually leaves to free amp channels. Thanks.

Yes the DSW is a powered sub that has its own on board plate amp. That is your .1, you have (two) LSi15s and (one) LSiC, that's 3 speakers = 3 ch on your amp. So now you are at 3.1, add the (two) LC80f/x's using 1 ch of amp each and you are at 5.1 and you have no free ch left on the XPA 5.
