Default New amp...which direction to go.

I'm anticipating picking up a new prepro for HT & two channel after the 1st of the year. I'm quite happy with my vintage 1980 Nikko VI amp for the mains so that's off the table for now. I have an Outlaw monoblock for my center & my NAD T765 is powering my surrounds. I have a couple different scenerios to ponder for the center & surrounds.

Keep the Outlaw, buy two more & call it a day. The most expensive move.
Sell the Outlaw & pickup an EMO XPA-3. Rather inexpensive move.
Keep the Outlaw & pickup a used two channel amp. Rather inexpensive also.

I'm not interested in a 5 channel amp. I like the flexibility of being able to swap out the main two channel amp when the mood hits me (Mac MC 402 some day!!!). So, for now I'm just interested in powering the center & surrounds. My surrounds are Polk LSiFX which are 4ohm & the center is 8ohm. Which way do you think is best?

You consider 2 Outlaw mono's expensive ? How much do you want to spend on a 2 channel amp?

In the grand scheme of things, no they're not expensive. But I'm only talking about surround speaker duty here. No need to get carried away. For a used two channel amp for the LSiFX...I'd figure 3-4 bills should cover it.

I guess you should look for a better two channel amps (not saying Niko is bad) and put your current Niko and Output for surround and center duty.

If Emotiva is what you think will make you happy, get an XPA-2 when it's on sale.

But if you ask me, I'll look on Audiogon aggressively first.

Now, if only Nikko made a 3 channel version of the Alpha VI amp, I'd be set!!! Ah, what more could a man ask for: the look of a McIntosh, the warmth & suductive sound of tubes, the slam of a Krell, the finess & dazzle of an Emo, all wrapped up in a single amp. You go Nikko!!! :D

Not interested in a two channel amp for my mains, that's very well covered at the moment. As my post states, I'm only looking to power my center & surrounds. A decent, inexpensive two channel amp might work for the surrounds though.

I'd keep the Outlaw and purchase a used 2-ch amp. For powering surrounds, I would keep it inexpensive as surrounds hardly get any action. That's if you got the space for all these amps. If not then I'd sell the Outlaw and get the 3-ch emo.

    Gordon,

Now that setup would be the "cats meow" to say the least. But the way things are looking at the present moment...that's a big stretch budget wise. That's not to say that down the road...:D:D:D

3 channel amps on budget, I think an Acurus A200x3 would do it on the cheap. Hey, it's not Emotiva but I don't see why not to look into Acurus, Aragon or even Proceed XPA-3.
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.

I also found info on an ADCOM GFA 5503 three channel amp that would fit the bill very nicely. I'll keep checking the 'gon for a bargain. Thanks for the amp info.
