    Default receiver

I recently made a post saying that I was going to get rid of my onkyo receiver because I wanted something less bright. I was recommended an HK possibly the 354. I have found a good price on Pioneer elite possibly an VSX-92TXH or an Sc-05. Would these fit my needs like an HK would?

Absolutely! I would definitely recommend the SC-05 in particular over the HK. :)

how about the other one? I have heard some good things. I really dont think I need all the power of the ICE amps on the 05. I have two separate amps

Based on what I have seen in the HK Forum. I would stay away from the 354 or 254.

I have looked into these firmware issues that you have most likely are talking about. Supposedly if I buy a refurbished 354 from HK directly they have fixed all of their problems and is under a original manufacturers warranty.
Both pioneers will cost me a little more than the 354 and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to spend a little more?

I think either of them will be a step up from the HK. :)

I am hoping that my returned unit will have the latest firmware upgrade. I still am surprised by the number of issues these units have. My biggest surprise (besides going into protect mode) was that turning off the video processing on the setup screen, doesn't really turn it off. I have found the video processing less than stellar and have resorted to a direct hookup from source to TV. I will say though that musically, the HK is outstanding.

Older ATM's that I service use this type of comms to record data capture, I would try lowering your baud rate and possibly changing to parity. This is a relatively slow way of data transfer, I bet if you lower the baud rate it would clear up the character confusion. I cant remember but in binary their are several letters that are very close in the way they are presented.
