Pioneer-TAD is the best lineup in Pioneer products. They should sounds fantastic the least. The TAD drivers are very high end and very expensive.

I actually had a chance to hear some of the pioneer speakers and I forgot which ones but they are very nice. Something I didn't expect pioneer to do. They were very detailed and very clean, and a great sound stage. The place I was at was going to try to get a pair of these but feared they wouldn't be able to sell them as they think people shy away from these because of the name pioneer on them. If you get a chance give them a listen, I'm sure you'll be surprised at what they can do!

I believe these were used to demo the multi-channel surround version of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" at the recent Rocky Mountain Audiofest. However, this particular model isn't exactly new.....see them at the 2007 CES

Probably more than you think, Ultra Rich people just buy things that cost a lot.

I could make a pair of $60,000 speakers as well and I might sell some too with the right marketing and advertizements

I agree about the appearance...what do you mean...these things weigh 150 lbs each! I'd say that's, at the very least, some damn good cabinet work.

Beryllium tweeters/drivers--rare earth material--quite expensive to find, fashion and use! I would suspect these sound NICE! I've heard Focal's Beryllium and it was phenomenal!

This is achieved using Pioneer's proprietary Coherent Source Transducer (CST) and two sizable 250mm bass drivers.

From a layman's perspective, the CST is like a driver within a driver comprising an outer 160mm midrange cone and an inner 35mm dome tweeter. This "in-line" design is said to deliver a precise imaging and seamless sound stage crucial for accurate sound reproduction.

I'm sure it sells better in Asia than the USA. At that price it's got some stiff
competition from Wilson and others. In Japan, there are quite a few companies making high end gear that is never seen here in the states.

I love the way big companies can make contradictory statements. One Pioneer division kills the Kuro TV, and another offers $60K speakers.

I saw a pair in person. They're bigger than you'd expect. They didn't have the looks or finish of a $60k speaker though.

I heard them in a small hifi shop in Seoul. They sounded pretty good, better than the Wilson demo....

Pioneer has got it in 'em to make top of the line stuff.

The world record holding SPL vehicle in car audio uses all Pioneer stuff.

Their PRS line of car audio speakers are VERY highly regarded in the SQ community and thats saying something coming from a bunch of audio snobs that insist on $350 Scanspeak midranges.

Apparently they got tired of being a Best Buy brand and decided to show their stuff. I wish more large manufacturers would do the same. Theyve got more money and resources so just imagine all the wonderful, audio goodness they could come up with and at cheaper prices than a smaller company could put them out for.

They had been reviewed very well, but even in that price class competition is stiff.

I have one of the type of subs they used in the earlier record, TSW5000SPL. it is extremely well made (over 70lbs by itself) and it sounds really clean to boot. I got a smookin deal on this and was really surprised.

Pioneer does make an excellent high end high dollar HiFi equipments under the Exclusive (better than elite series) Name since the early days. It's mostly known in Japan and Asia and highly sought after. The Exclusive gears are so expensive I doubt anyone here in U.S actually bought one. :D

Anyway, these TAD drivers are not cheap as I said earlier. I am Guessing the ultra uber high end TAD drivers in these speakers could cost nearly 1/3 of the cost of the speakers if you can buy the drivers alone.

And No, they are not Tannoy's Dual Concentric Drivers. Have you checked the price of the Tannoy Dual Concentric lately? A Pair of 15" Dual Concentric in good condition was sold for more than 6K. And Tannoy used Paper Cone. The TAD driver uses very durable but very light Beryllium which costs a lot more to produce than paper cone.

As Pioneer being mostly a BestBuy type Giant Electronics Seller doesn't mean they haven't made any Hi End exotic HiFi Gears. In fact, they have tried and they are still making some of the world's truly HiFi gears worth more bang for the bucks!

Ok, I sounds bit like Pioneer Sucker. But hey, the name says it all - It's Pioneer!

I'm not a huge brand whore, so I'd be willing to give them a listen. I just can't find justification in 60k speakers at all lol. I've heard 7k per pair Audio Physic speakers, and they are PHENOMENAL. With the sound those produce at that price, I doubt any speaker is worth the price premium. Law of diminishing returns sets in eventually lol.

Correction : Woofer cones are made from tri-laminate of woven aramid fibers sandwiching a foamed acrylic core, whatever that means. :o

Tweeter and Mid Drivers are made from Beryllium.
