    Default Dsw micropro 4000

    Hello Audiophiles and Gurus,

I have purchased a DSW micropro 4000 as part of a combo deal for a steal. I am a beginner and don't even have a receiver yet to drive the speaker set and planning to set up my first HT set up. Could you help me decide the following?
    1. Does DSW micropro require a highend receiver?
    2. My room does not have special audio insulation. Is it required to run this sub at high volumes to enjoy the detail? Concerned about neighbors :(
    2. I am concerned that this sub will be overly fancy and highend for a beginner since it is Polk's top of the line. Do you guys suggest selling this sub?
    3. Is it a good idea to sell the sub and use the money for buying a decent receiver and be within the budget?

    Thanks for your help...

It's a great sub and goes good with starter receivers all the way up to the high end receivers. With that being said it's pointless having a sub with out a receiver unless you love to look at it.

I'd say sell it and get a receiver.

The deal was if I buy POLK speakers for 2fronts, 1center and 2rears worth $499, the subwoofer is discounted 50% of the price

hi i know that i might be late, but i own the DSW pro 600 with a 7.1 RTIA setup, its a very nice sub with an excellent bass my room is 18X24, comapred to the micro 3000 its better to get 2 of the DSW pro instead, u will have a better bass disctribution in the room.

Logically speaking, it would make more sense to sell the sub if you don't have a receiver, and put that money towards one. That is, if you can get what you would be paying for the sub by selling it. However, if I managed to get my grubby hands on a microPRO 4000, I don't think I would sell it. That is one hell of a sub, and would be a part of your system you wouldn't have to think about upgrading later IMO:)

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I think I will look for a receiver for < $300 and try to keep the sub. Can anyone comment on the need for running this sub on high volumes? Can I enjoy the detail at low volumes? Worried about the neighbours as it will be going in an open room with a big glass window and no sound insulation of any sort (in otherwords it is going in a room not meant for a media room)

    Thanks...

if you live in a house like mine (****ty one) that glass is going to piss you off. No need to play it too loud for music you want clean bass more then a ghetto blaster. For movies loud as you can with out neighbors calling the cops : ). No really that sub will be prefect at almost any volume.

Thanks Manskito.. I would like to play normal volumes also. Good to know that the quality will be good at lower volumes

i have a 7.1 RTIA ( A9s,CSi A6, FXiA4, A1) setup with the DSW PRO 600, in a 18.5 X 28 room, i inquired about the Micropro 4000 at the time, the disti told me to get 2 DSW Pro 600 instead as well ,better bass distribution at the same price,

btw i was interrested at the time with the psw 1000.

i wouldn't buy the Micro pro 4000 my self as it's a beast and i live in an appartment.

    i wish it was a 15" btw.
