It is definitely brighter than my previous Denon (which I expected) but WOW! The sound quality is truly phenomenal! So much detail in the sound, so many features and power for days. I also really like that I can listen to Sirius over the web with it rather than buying the add on. Still have yet to really get down and dirty with tuning it but I am seriously impressed with the sound quality.

Man...was this an open box special or a sale? I am interested in this unit, but even best buy has them priced at $1,699.98 right now. Best I have found from a reputable dealer is $1,278.99 + $8 shipping.

I saw one at a local BB. It's a floor model SC05. Unless the OP bought it at employee discount, the price he paid is still very close to dealer cost.

In store price maybe but they also have them on Videogon. You have to talk to Bill and he'll give you the Videogon price.

Thank you, sir. You make my day. I have the Pio SC09 bought from Soundpros in San Diego few months ago and I am very happy with the SC05. I really want the SC25/27 with a detachable power cord.

Sorry for the typo. I have the SC05 not the SC09. BTW, BB still has the SC25/SC27 @ full MSRP.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Best Buy's deal is. I think I got a great price on this unit. I've heard people who paid full retail for it say its worth more to their ears. The only thing I hate about buying stuff online is waiting for it. :p

I asked the owner Jim one time about them selling on the internet such as videogon, but they told me they dont' do that at all and it isn't them. Strange. What does Bill look like btw? I normally talk to Randy and I can't remember the other guy.

Pioneer just keeps having incredible sales. How cool is that? letting people get into a fantastic receiver for a killer sweet price. Nice going man, good for you. Tell us all about it after you get everything dialed in.

I have the Pio SC05. Are there any big differences between the SC05 and the newer SC25 regarding sound?

No change in sound, just more features as in few more HDMI outs, etc. Same B&O IceAmps. Keep the SC-05 and enjoy.

Do any of you think Pioneer should have HDMI upscaling to 1080p in it's recievers and also the option for pass-through "Auto" so you can have the best of both worlds? I don't know why Pioneer doesn't 1080p upscaling for HDMI sources in it's Elite recievers. Doesn't Denon have the option to upscale to 1080p and also pass-through?

Reason why I ask is because I'm not always going to watch movies on Bluray and dvd's on my Oppo because I watch a lot of HBO and other movies and sports on cable tv and I have the cable box connected with HDMI to my Pio SC05 a/v and I want the reciever to upscale channels to 1080p. I have a Comcast HD cable box and the highest it scales is 1080i. Do I need to get the DVDO Edge box for that?

I think I answered this a few times way back when. If you want your cable tv upscaled to 1080p then it is suggested you buy the external VP. They actually just released a new VP that is supposed to be pretty good also. What you could do is install the cable box over component and upscale that way. Simple fix.

How would I connect my Comcast HD box component wise to the a/v so the reciever upscales it to 1080p on the tv? I've only used HDMI wiring and not familiar with component wiring.

DV I looked in the manual and can refer you to page 98. You can connect your cable box via analog component into the AVR. From there you can go into the settings of the AVR and then have it upscale to 1080p if you want to take advantage of the video processing in the SC-05. Not sure if it's going to make a major improvement over your HDMI connection though, but maybe worth a shot.

Thank you, this will be my project for the day. I don't know if the Pio will upscale 1080i or 720p sources to 1080p, I don't think it does. Ultimate AV Mag says it can't.
