    Default bridging a Carver AV-505

I just got a Carver AV-505 amp for my HT, but I want to give mt RTiA5's a little more power than the 80 wpc that it offers in five channel mode. Can I bridge this amp? I know that you can bridge most stereo amps, but this one is a little different than I'm used to. Thanks,

Well, in truth you can't bridge most stereo amps.

That said, if your amp can be bridged, there will be a switch (usually on the back) that allows you to operate in bridged mode. However, since it's a 5 channel amp, not a 2 channel amp I don't believe it can be bridged.

    I found this info....
Carver AV505, it's rated at 80x5 with power steering. it can steer up to 130 watts into any one ch. at a time. Also rated at 100x2, all into 8 ohms.
That would indicate that you cannot bridge it.

I know the AV 806 can be bridged but I don't know about the AV505. If I were you I would bi amp with it if your speakers will do that. That is a pretty good amp and will power most speakers in most HT with no issues.

Thanks guys, I think I'll give bi amping a shot. My rear speakers aren't really worth amplifying, so that leaves me two open channels. My new question is, do I have to split the signal coming out of one of the pre amp outputs to use two of the amps channels to power one speaker?

Yes you will have to by Y IC's to split the signal to each of the channels on the amp.

Thanks for the help, now I have to try to find some decent Y IC's and some bi-amp speaker cables.
