    Default Help/Advise with speaker upgrade

Here is my current set up,running a Onkyo 876

    Fronts-Monitor 70
    Center-csi3
    Surrounds-Monitor 50
    Rears-Monitor 60

I can get a killer deal on a set of rti10's for my fronts and rti4's for my surrounds/rears.I LOVE my current setup but the price I can get these
rti's has got me thinking.....is it worth doing?50% movies,50% gaming.

    Cheers,John

I'd say yes. But then you'll also want to think about external amp(s) to power at least the RTi10s. They really come alive with some power.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Damn,145 won't cut it?My monitor 70's sound beautiful with this amp,are rt10 really that power hungry?I don't want to hook up rti10's to have them sound worse than my monitor 70's due to not enough juice.I'm not to big on going with a external amp (I like being married LOL!:D) Also would I lose my fullness (Playing PS3/XBOX) that I get with my monitor 50 and 60's as surrounds by going with a rti4?

It's a reciever... you MIGHT get 145wpc out of it if you're running in stereo mode. But in surround mode? Definitely not.

I doubt you'd lose anything going to these either way, but an amp would bring the RTi10s in particular to a new level.

I would say stay with what you have, it is perfect for what you are using it for.
With the money, buy your wife a nice necklace instead.

What he said. For movies/gaming, you have a great setup; I don't think the slight improvement will be worth the price for those purposes. If you are happy with the monitors, why replace them? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Looking at your setup list, the first upgrade I'd so is a sub. Nice, punchy, musical sub like a Polk DSW or an SVS.

Id keep it, of course I just logged on to see if I should take the opportunity to upgrade my new Monitor 70's to a pair of Rti A8's for about 75 dollars more. (if the shop will let me that is). But turbo, since you have some kick ass subs and arent mostly listening to stereo like me, I think you should keep that system, especially if you love it.

Got my new RTI's all hooked/mic'd up tp my Onkyo and all I can say is WOW!Very happy with these, the detail/soundstage is just insane for Blu-rays and video games. It is a nice jump up from my monitors sound wise, but from a bang for your buck perspective Monitors are king for there performance.Well, unless you can pick up RTI's on Boxing day for cheap like I just did that is :).

Nice Christmas. New speakers for you and a necklace for your wife.
    I call that win-win.

I would be intested in your opinion about the Monitor 70's vs the RTi10's for 2 channel music.

If I were going to upgrade from M70s I'd choose Rti-12s or A9s..anything less is not as much of an improvement. But it's always nice to try new things.
