Hey George, I know Doug just bought some Neil Young LP's. You should PM him or maybe he'll see this thread. He's OT for the Holidays, but should be back soon. IIRC, they one(s) he has are excellent.

Neil Young is known for making sure his recordings are done right. I have the Classic Records 200 gm pressing of the "Best of" and the SQ is absolutely fabulous.

George - I bought the first 4 Neil Young albums from the recently re-released pressings. I didn't get the 180g box set, as there are many reports of pressing problems with those. I got the 140g non-boxed set releases, all pressed at Pallas in W Germany. The sq is excellent, and all mine are flat and dead quiet. The only one I had in a prior release was Harvest, so I did a comparison and the new release has a much more lifelike and dynamic sound, and is more forward with the soundstage. I'm pretty sure my older Harvest isn't a 1st pressing, so I am not sure how the new release compares to that.

Overall these 4 new releases get a thumbs up from me.

I normally would of ordered from Elusive Disc or Acoustic Sounds, however we have a local used record store that is trying to build up a business with new vinyl, and although I paid a little more than I would of from the online stores, I do like to try and help out a local store that I like and want to see be successful.

It seems that Elusive Disc and Acoustic Sounds have been having frequent free shipping specials, so I normally stock up on new vinyl when either one has the shipping special.

I have some older pressings of Harvest, After the Goldrush, Decade and the one with Down by the River.....and the SQ on those is pretty damn good, so I'd say it's a safe bet.
