Possible Blown Tweeter??

Hey guys i have just registered to this forum to ask this question. I have recently purchased the MM6501 component system and i received them on tuesday the 5th. i had time to install them on wednesday and i have been listening to them at a low volume to break the speakers in (25 out of i think 62 on a Pioneer DEH-P980BT, set the gain at about 50 with a dmm and 0 db 1khz tone, my "normal" loud level when i feel like having the system cranked is 50). only today when i got off of work and get into my car and turn on the system the right tweeter plays for about 2 seconds and cuts off. when i got home i swapped the tweeter with one from my old Pioneer D-series component set that this replaced and the tweeter played just fine. so i tried swapping it back and nothing. I tried checking to see if it was giving me any ohm reading and it was at about 0.5 iirc. i dont remember exactly. i only had the set installed for 3 days and the sound quality and midbass were amazing. i have never heard my door panels rattle so much :). but anyways i am confused on how/why this could have happened. any thoughts on this? thanks

Could be blown, was it scratchy for any amount of time as you were breaking it in?

Nope. It was playing just fine up until it stopped working.

Than it stopped working call for a replacement.

So no external amplifier running them, you have them running off the Pioneer Pioneer DEH-P980BT?

If so, four possibilities. 1. The Pioneer internal amplifier has a problem. 2. The crossover for that side has a problem. 3. The tweeter you received was a dud. 4. Somewhere in your wiring there is an issue. (unlikely if it sounded great and suddenly stopped)

I would look at the crossover for that side, and compare it to the other one. If everything looks ok, I would be that the new tweeter will be just fine.

When I purchased my SR5250 component set, I ran them for about a month and had to get an RMA from Crutchfield. The crossover on that side had an odd looking coil and the tweeter hooked to it was starting to blow. (surface had irregularities) Crutchfield sent me a new set overnight. I was very happy and have had no issues with the new set.
