Default Center channel in entertainment center

Does anyone have any guidance on placing a ported center channel speaker in a cabinet/entertainemnt center? What about a non ported speaker? I am looking at either a csi3 or csi5 but the ports on the csi5 have me questioning if it will be ok in an enclosed space.

I realize that en enclosed space is not the best situation for a speaker, but I want to make sure I dont magnify the problem by choosing the wrong speaker.

(and yes, I do have enough space in the cabinet for the beastly csi5, a 30" wide x 9" high x 24" deep hole)

Welcome to Club Polk. Assuming that it is not a tight fit, there will be air around the speaker, so I don't see a problem.
The rear ports have a standoff to direct the air flow at the back.

I would not use a rear ported center in an enclosed et. center. Think about it. Sure, you could cross it over to not play deep, but if thats the case, why spend the money on it in the first place ?

    Thanks guys for the suggestions.

Tonyb - do you beleive the csi5 in a cabinet would actually underperform the csi3 or would I just loose some of the magic of the csi5? Assuming it would at least perform as well as the csi3 I would still opt for it with the idea that in the future I may be able to relocate it. The $$$ is negligible, the csi5 I was eyeing is actually priced near the best price I could get a csi3 for.

I would go with the CSi5. Period. I have mine in a cabinet, and while I have not compared 'in cabinet' to on a stand, yet, I think you will be very happy. Remember, the CSi5 also has a port on the front under the tweeter, in addition to the two Power ports on the back.
