    Default SONY tan9000es btl question

Hi. To wire the BTL using only one power amp do I connect the l/f speaker wire to both positive terminals of the lf and lr speaker? The manual only lists two amps. The amp has a little diagram beside the speaker hookups that indicates this. Thanks for any input

Well here is what I tried. I began by connecting the FL Speaker POS cable to the FL POS in jumper on the amp-and the FL NEG cable to the (Rear)L POS jumper on the amp. Same thing on the Right speaker. FR Pos to FR pos on the amp and FR NEG to (Rear)R Pos. There was sound coming out of the speaker in 2 channel+1 BTL mode. Has anyone done this with this amplifier and liked the results?

Not following you. You connect an RCA cable, as we call an IC CABLE, from the receiver to the amp. Then connect your speaker wires to the amp. Is this what you did ? I hope so.

    THX Tony for replying.
Yes, I did connect the pre-outs for the channels I am using from my receiver to the amp. But I have wired the speakers to the amp as I indicated (confusing to read though). Like so, The front left speaker positive to the front left positive terminal on the amp. Then the Front left speaker negative to the Rear left positve terminal on the amp. Sme thing for the right speaker. Front right positive to front right positive on the amp and front right negative to rear right positive. The manual makes no mention how to connect BTL mode for this amplifier, and I have searched endlessly, but there is little information available. Thanks for any additional information.

I'm still confused, maybe because I am not familiar with your amp, but why would you connect front left negative to rear left possitive ? Are you trying to bi-amp with a 5 channel amp ? What is BTL mode ?

This is my first amp, just got it last week (used). BTL mode gives 200 watts per channel. Normal 2 channel operation is rated at 115 watts per channel.

I have only tried bi-amping with my receiver. I will try with this amp, but first I want to figure this BTL thing out first.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding you Red, but are you trying to bridge a four channel amp?

It is a five channel amp. However the mode I use is the BTL + 1 which is 2 channel + center. So I guess , Yes. I am bridging the 4 channels. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. I have seen that link before. Well, in the third picture shows the back of my amp. You can see the diagram beside the speaker connections, and it indicates what I think is what I am talking about. Can you identify this as well?

It seems there are some switches on the back that you need to make sure are correct for BTL mode. Aside from that, in the upper middle of the amp, on the back, you have two sets of speaker wire connectors for each front left and right speaker. This appears to be for bi-wireing. You connect your front left speaker wire to one set on the amp, not both, unless your bi-wireing. Red to red, which is positive, black to black, negative. Follow so far ? Do the same for the right.

Ok, I missed the rear speaks. Sorry about that. That is a funky set up though. I guess your right, in btl mode, you hook up the speakers vertically, if not in btl mode horizontaly.

OK. I just got that "fuzzy I have done this before and regretted it in 8th grade feeling" when I started connecting the negative speaker cables to the positive binding posts on the rear speakers. SO it's POS POS and POS NEG-reperat on the other side. I also toggle the switch to BTL mode. The manual said to use the "upper" impedence setting when using 8ohm speakers - and that it would limit the output power of the amp-as opposed to 16 ohm speakers??

Is this the same as bi-amping only this adds power/wattage?

BTW: Could I hook a car sub up to this?

And thanks again for the input.
