lsi 15 tweeter not working

i recently purchased lsi15 on ebay. when i received them both bases were broken by ups, otherwise they were mint. when i hooked them up, the tweeters didnt work on either speaker. i hooked the leads directly to the tweeter with no bass and a low volume level and they worked. is this a crossover problem? does it seem odd that both did not work?

Pull the crossover and look for any obvious damage. It's attached to the back of the binding post cup.

i did not see any obvious damage. im trying to get a price for the x-over and have ups pay but polk is dealing with the blizzard.

are the gold jumpers connected. i bet that they were using the lsi's bi-amped. other wise i would think the XO is smoked.

yes they were in place. can the x-overs be damaged by the speakers being dropped?

not a XO expert but i highly doubt that. they are pretty well contained inside the speaker. i would still take a look. did the seller state they were working prior to shipping??

i had a crazy party and smoked ( literally ) the XO from too much volume for too long. luckly the place i bought them from replaced them for me ( lesson learned )

make sure the binding posts are screwed tight to hold the jumpers.

is there any way to test the crossover? i have a fluke multi-meter and a decent electrical understanding

Absolutely. Check for cracked boards, loose/broken solder joints. Also check for loose connections at the board, binding posts and the tweeters/drivers.

That said, what you should really do is have UPS total the speakers and get new ones.

Polk CS can tell you..."I Think" they are around $70ea, but I am not sure.

If the tweeters work though - why are you planning to replace them?

Did you pull the crossover and does everything look good there? Snap a few pics of what the crossovers look like and we will try and give you an idea of what could be the problem.

i tested continuity across the resistors and 1 was bad in each crossover. when i jumped across the bad res. the tweeter worked.
the speakers were insured for way less than replacement value so i am limited to what i can get from ups. unfortunately while disconnecting the leads i broke a spade on the tweeter.

That high frequency circuit resistor is a known issue. I'd bet they were bad before shipping.

Why under insured? Were they in the factory cartons?

i replaced the 5ohm reisitors and both speakers work great. thanks for the help
