    Default RTi8 Speaker Spikes

I've read how replacing the plastic spikes on speakers with better quality metal spikes can improve bass response, by being able to penetrate the carpet and padding. Since my RTi8's have no woofers, only two midrange drivers, would I hear any improvement by replacing the stock spikes?

FYI: Underneath the carpet and padding is a, sort of, cork layer. Will that cork defeat the purpose of spikes? I don't think a spike can penetrate the carpet, the padding, and go all the way through the cork to get to the plywood underlayment.

I posted on here a while back about adding a granite slab underneath my Ushers, which sit in a room above my garage. The stability increased greatly and the bass improved. If you're getting a lot of side to side or back to front movement, you might consider getting some heavy slabs to slide underneath them.

Would marble be too soft of a stone? Look what I have. I've got a chop saw too. I could cut that sucker in half...it's big and heavy.

Remember when you guys helped me with speaker placement? To get the proper width between my front speakers, I had to cram my sub in the corner, which is the only place it will fit. The corner of the sub is closer to the speaker cabinet than the speaker's spikes. And it can't be moved any closer to the side wall.

What you need are tall, narrow spikes with a sharp tip.

One of these should do the job.

    http://www.adonacorporation.com/tweaks.html

Solid Brass Black-chrome Extended Cones - 1 1/4" diameter at the top and 2 1/8" tall. Check that the diameter isn't too big as they would look funny sticking out.

Black-chrome Slender Cones - 1/2" diameter at the top and 1 3/8" tall.

The bigger one will fit. The stock ones are approx. 1.5" diameter at the top. When you place an order, do you just tell them what speakers you have and they'll know the thread pattern and screw diameter?

They won't know. I'm pretty sure yours are 1/4-20, it's Polk's standard except for the DSW subs, which use 6mm. You can take a stock one off, go to the hardware store grab a 1/4-20 bolt and check that the size/pattern match.

Edit: checked another thread here, they are 1/4-20.
