    Why? Sunfire=Carver technology=EMO...

Who cares, so long as folks enjoy [or not] what they are listening too. I could care less. S happens...

How so? Bob was long gone by then. He started Sunfire with essentially a clean slate and did not share that tech with anyone prior to his departure. What happens after the man is gone is not his responsibility. Personally, I am glad that Emo was fortunate to begin with a design that was intended for Carver.

[QUOTE=nooshinjohn;1283567]The amp was first designed for Phoenix Gold and was to be sold under the Carver Digital name. The founder of Emotiva worked as a marketing rep for a company called Homni, a small(at that time) electronics company in China. Just prior to Bob leaving Carver Corporation, they had begun to farm out circuit board design to them. After Carver was sold to Poenix Gold, that relationship deepened, culminating in the amp we are talking about.

Prior to it's introduction to market, the contract to build them was desolved due to Phoenix Gold loosing the rights to the Carver name. Phoenix lost the rights to the design when the contract was cancelled. By this time, Dan Laufman had aquired a significant ownership stake in Homni. He rebranded this amp as Emotiva. The rest is history.... I spoke to Bob C. about this today.:) His recollection of events is not 100% because he was not involved with the company any longer when these events occured.[/QUOTE

Ehh...good thing I never plan on buying anything from either of these companies.

Maybe I should give Carver a call just to let them know I won't be buying anything from them.;)

If you want my honest opinion...I really think I'd take an Emo over a Carver/Sunfire. I'm yet to hear any Emo products other than the ERC-1, but I've heard Carver systems before...and they left a lot to be desired IMHO.

    But...to each their own.:)

CC, you just haven't heard the right Carver gear with the right rig. Not everything Carver is run of the mill gear or even mainstream. There is a reason I'm still a fan. To hear his latest, you'll need about 5-6K or so just for some tube amps that sound.....well, if your mind is made up......

well i say. in the mid 90s i got a visit from a demo vehicle and it wasn't like one of these "lets see how loud it goes" type of things. it was the most exquisite listening experience i have ever had. all sunfire and stillwater(kicker) designs. i wouldn't discount carver without a very strong audition.

Don't take me wrong...I'm not trying to bash on Carver or anything. I don't even remember the model #'s of any of the Carver gear I've heard(I vaguely recall one of the amps being a TFM-24?...maybe)...but it wasn't the absolute top of the line stuff. I really wasn't impressed by it at all though. I would love to hear some of their higher end stuff(such as the Silver 7's/9's).

5-6k? If that's what you've gotta spend for Carver gear that sounds good...well...I'm not interested.;) I very highly doubt that I'll ever have a desire to spend that much on an amp. That money would be better spent buying a ****load of new music IMO.:)

I sent Bob a message, if he responds then great if he doesn't then I'll go have a cup of coffee

    Dear audioshopper,

    Bob,

Did you have anything to do with this Amp or did they just use your name after you sold the company?

A while back, I was ready to purchase an AudioSource AMP100 - a modest 2-channel amp - to power a set of outdoor speakers. Parts Express and Amazon were blowing these out at $79, which was about as low as I'd seen them go. I go to place my order and darn if they're not out of stock... I get on PE's waiting list, and when they come back in stock months later - $149!

Clearly, the market has gotten wind of AudioSource's lineage and the loose "connection" to Emo, and this has driven the price through the roof! ;)

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would dig up this moldy oldie. It looks like this amp is back in production of some sort, and there is a website for Carver... I wonder how Bob feels about this one?

The amp appears to be exactly the same as the Carver Digital unit, which spawned the MPS-1. I have a call into the company, which is not too far from me to see if they are still around and get some pricing. More updates to come.

In the March 2014 issue of the absolute sound, on pages 58-59, he has a two page ad for his speakers where he says, "Let's join Albert Einstein, Stu Hegeman, Max Planck, and me in a loud speaker thought experiment."

On page 61 there is an ad for the Silver Seven 700.

A phone call to the number provided on the website had a young lady of Chinese decent answer the phone as "Carver Holdings". She said the owner was out of the country at this time and that they stocked no product on-site. I told her that I was inquiring as to becoming a distributor for their product and was looking to see what steps I needed to take. She said the owner will call me when he returns. We will see if Bob calls.

^^^yep... I called them first thing this morning. I am really interested in finding out the details on this because it would be the same amp as the Phoenix Gold developed Carver Digital, and by the looks of it, they were very well built. They weigh in at some 120 pounds, with each amp card weighing 13 pounds each!

I would not mind giving one a spin if they don't cost more than a grand apiece.
