    Default Adding a headphone jack?

Is it possible to add a headphone jack to an integrated amp? I imagine you could dumb down the output with resistors? Has anyone tried this before with a tube or SS amp?

Have I tried it? Not that I can remember.

You could use a transformer, or resistors(L-pad) or even an op-amp set to less than unity gain.

I kind of like the op-amp approach myself.

I may have an integrated EL34 amp coming in, and thought it might also make a good HP amp as I have seen that design before. I think in other designs, an opamp would be the best route, but I think that might cause the HP output to lose its tubey goodness.

Many hybrid amps(think a car audio 'tube' amp) have tubes on the input to get the tube sound and then solid state outputs. I wouldn't worry about the sound of the opamp overriding the tube goodness.

Loading might be a consideration. The load of even a BJT input opamp is still going to be on the order of 100k ohms, but if you want idealism, use a jfet opamp as it's nearly an infinite load. Then you can put the opamp and an appropriate resistor in parallel with the output to keep it happy.

I looks like I am going to be getting the amp, so I may have to start tinkering with the idea of adding a jack.

I think I have a few 2SK370 N channel JFETs in my parts bin left over from a B1 Buffer build. Would those work?
