And what this means and why we're concerned is that my wife works for the Advertiser. Layoffs are inevitable and if Janey's cut we are truly screwed. :(

This hit us with no warning whatsoever.

Good luck, hopefully things won't be too bad.

My wife and I both got taken down in the economic crunch a year ago. We have been able to keep things from sinking with a positive attitude and some hustle. Just remember that determination can be key and to keep your head up in these hard times.

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Mike, sorry that this is happening. Your area is lucky that it did support two independant newspaper for all this time. It is beoming a rartity in this day and age. Newspapers have taken huge loses in revenue since the 90's. I worked for the Seattle Times for 33 years and retired in 2001 after the newspaper strike that we had. A lot of people lost jobs due to the strike and since then due to declining revenue. I was offered early retirement at age 57 and took it. I started out as a union printer (composing room) and ended up as the Composing Room Manager. There was a time when the newspaper trades was a guarantee to a good living wage for life but that kind of career will never be seen again. Good luck to you guys.

Sorry to hear about that Mike...I'm with Jeff above...if there's anything we can do please call on your Polk family. Like Jesse says above, 'we' all hope for the best possible outcome for you and yours!

Unfortunately, the jobs these days, as Brock alludes to above, are NOT in the states...but here in China? And the U.S. is still pretty much struggling.
