    Default A Pioneer SX-850 drive a pair of rti12's?

I have the old Pioneer SX-850 and I would like to get a nice set of speakers for it. Probably, but not definitely a pair of rti12's. I m only interested in 2 channel audio so I was hoping I could use the Pioneer instead of having to buy something newer. Right now I have a pair of the Monitor 40s and a pair of Wharfedale 35s hooked up to it.

Yes, I know it is quite pathetic that those are the best speakers I own. :o

Anyone have any experience or thoughts they would share with me? Thanks!

well having just bought a set of RTI12s for my HT/Dance room (college n all) they are beautiful speakers. The first time I heard a violin play on them my heart sank and the warmth and feeling they gave. Not to mention you can crank them and they still sound beautiful. I have my adcom amp being shipped to me shortly and that will be the game changer for my beautiful cherry RTI12s! GET 'EM!

Oh and by the way, welcome to the club! POLK is the only way to go unless you're makin' 7 figures quarterly. Enjoy the music!

Thank you. And I am impressed with the fit and trim of Polk's products. They just look good to me. I am not a big fan of the appearance of modern day towers though. I miss the old monkey coffins of the 70's and 80's. :)

A Polk rep answered my question. He said it would be fine as long as I don't listen at rock concert levels. That is fine with me as my 50 year old ears don't play music that loud anymore.

Whats the wattage on the sx-850? My onkyo sr876 puts 210wpc (so onkyo says) to mine and I thought it really didnt do the speakers justice which is why i bought a 200wpc adcom amp. Hopefully this will solve my desires (but i love bass and loud music). I will admit an external sub definitely completes the speakers even though people say they dont need one with the 12s.

I dont want to be a downer for you getting these epic speakers but you may be better suited with the 2way rti8s (which are dirt cheap and sound awesome) and a subwoofer. Or even the rti10s with only the 2 woofers. I have never heard those speakers though so i can not personally vouch. Good luck!

The 850 has 85 wpc. with my monitor 40's I never crank it past about 1/4 and it gives me plenty of bass and volume in this small room. People on audiokarma have said the older units from the 70's are rated for less power than modern day units but actually have more power in real world use. That may not be exactly how they phrase it but what they are saying is that modern receivers are deceptively overrated in the wpc department.

As for me I only know what people tell me and what I hear. I don't think I play music too loud. It is loud enough to where you can here it outside the house reasonably well but not understand all of the lyrics. My nearest neighbors are about 200 yards away so they are not a problem. I have considered that the 12's are overkill but for $450, and they look mint, I thought I would go for it and I could always sell them and make a little cash if need be.

PS: not opposed to changing my mind..................
