Where to find DVR-VHS DVD recorders?

I'm looking to convert an old set of family VHS videos over to cd so I can throw out my vcr once and for all. Do any of you know anything about the VHS/CD recorder machines and the process of how to copy them over? Which brands make a reliable machine?

Toshiba has some vhs/dvd recorders that were released last year, the Toshiba DVR620 and DVR670. The DVR620 has no built-in tuners, it requires external tuners / cable box / etc... for recording. So if I hook the DVR620 up to my Comcast HD box can I record tv shows onto cd's? I'm not sure about the hookup wiring process. But also, do any of you have any experience with vhs/dvd recorders?

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm looking for a device that can put both my vhs and cd's into the same machine and copy the vhs onto the cd at the same time. If there is a camcorder that does that, I'd like to see it, but how much does it cost? I'd like to keep it under $180 bucks.

It must be close to 10 years old by now, but I still own a Sansui-branded (made by Funai) VHS VCR/DVD player-recorder that I purchased from Sears. I can dub DVD to VHS, or VHS to DVD. Once you figure out how to control the machine, the dubbing is a one touch process. The VHS to DVD dubs actually looked quite good....in fact, I'd say the dub actually looks better than the original VHS (recorded in SLP and from many years ago). I also plugged my ancient 8mm Sony camcorder into the front A/V jacks of the Sansui and dubbed the 8mm videotapes onto DVD. Back then, a machine such as the Sansui went for something close to $400.00. Nowadays, I think you can pick up something similar from Panasonic for roughly $200.00.

I'd like to convert my VHS tapes onto dvd discs so I can watch them in my bd player. I own a Oppo bdp-83. The type of discs I have to use are Memorex 16x DVD-R. The other discs I have are Philips 52x CD-R. Does it matter which disc I use? Will the Oppo recognize those discs and play them?

Also, will any of these DVR-VHS/DVD recorders do?

Thanks, I compared that to the Toshiba DVR620, I think the Toshi has more features and options minus the tv tuner.

I have the Toshiba DVR670 as shown in my signature and like it.
The tuner is pretty good and recording is easy.

If you're recording videos, then you will use blank DVDs. As to whether the DVD recorder/VHS VCR accept your Memorex DVD-Rs, that will be decided by that machine's compatibility with your blank DVDs. Some with record on DVD-R only, such as my Sansui. Other machines may be able to accommodate only DVD+R, or both DVD +/- R.

You can record video images on blank CDs.

Get a video capture card/TV tuner ($50) for your computer, hook you VHS player up to it and create them on the computer. Lots of free software to get the job done, better editing options, etc.

I haven't done the VHS tape conversion yet. Just the Video 8 to DVD.
That works quite well for me.
