    Default IEC power cable upgrade

    Hello,
I have a pioneer VSX94TXH elite. It's power cable is not the IEC detachable cable. Has anybody did a modification to an IEC.
The reason I am asking this, becuase I want the option to be able to upgrade the power cable.
    thanks

I just did this with an amp a month ago. All you have to do is remove the stock power cord, measure and mark the hole for the IEC style receptacle, cut the hole with a Dremel or saw, screw in the receptacle and solder or crimp on the internal power wiring. It's a process that takes less than an hour. Good luck!

The IEC has 3 wires in it, but the pioneer amp has only 2 wires.

You can install a receptacle with 2 wires in it, or (check the schematic first) ground the 3rd prong to the case.

If you go with adding a ground prong, you may hear some hum depending on the design of the amp. If that's the case, just lift the ground.

ViperZ has a VERY VALID point. ALWAYS consult a schematic first. BUT the mod itself shouldn't be that hard.

My skills in reading schematics is very limited, I will play it safe and connect only 2 wires.

does it matter if I get the generic IEC socket or go with the really expensive furatech?

Thanks for the link. I want to do this to my TFM-35X's as well. It'll be cool to connect them with some MIT Z Series II cords.

Right now I have them plugged directly into my Panamax an I'd like to see how they would perform being plugged directly into a wall outlet.

All I was trying to say is that make sure that your case is GROUNDED. Some (weird, unusual, old whatever) amp cases may not be grounded. So all you really need to do is measure the voltage between the case and the "real" known ground point on the boards.

I just ordered some stuff from PartsExpress to do this exact same mod to an Adcom amp and preamp, both with stock, non-detachable power cords. Neither of these components have a grounded 3-prong plug, so I will try both ways and see what happens.

Sorry for the derail, just figured I'd chime in and let the OP know that this mod is probably not a
    bad idea.

I accidentally hit the "submit" button twice (didn't even realize it, either :o)

So I edited the 2nd post while I was still able to, that's all.

As soon as I get my order from PEx, I'll be ready to do the mod... good thing I have two Adcom 535s to play with ;)
