If it's anywhere near as good as the Earth series, it should be awesome!

I would highly recommend viewing it in HD.

I've watched the first hour. Images and videography are great as are the story lines. Oprah as narrator ruins it for me...she just sucks. I'm sure they got her to do the voice for the "star" factor. WHAT A MISTAKE!

Too many commercials as well. I guess I could just DVR it and avoid the commercials but .....

Woo-hoo! There is a DVD (and Blu-Ray) version with with David Attenborough like the original BBC version of "Planet Earth". NO Oprah...NO Commercials.

I'll have to wait till June 1st...but worth the wait.

Excellent thanks, I'll order from the UK.

Looks like if you import these are encoded in 1080i/50hz and not all BD players can handle the conversion. PS3 is one that cannot so be aware. The discs from the UK are region free though.

Here is the list of the BD players that can/cannot support playback

They did the "Human Body" or something along that lines several years back. It was an awesome series that followed the creation of a human being from conception to death. The death characterized was from old age, with a grandfather having a great relationship with his grandson to the day he died.

Then the mechanics of why the grandfather's death occurred. Very understandable as to why a person would die of old age if we think of our bodies being a machine of sorts. Very sad as to the passing of one individual concerning the passage of information and knowledge to the next generation.

I'd buy that BR/DVD to check out the series again

We bought Planet Earth series on hd-dvd and it was amazing. It looks like a continuation of that, just under a different name. I guess we got the BBC version, as we had some British dude narrate the whole series. I watched one episode of the Discovery version hosted by Sigourney Weaver and hated it. Never realized how much the narrator can do for a nature series. I haven't seen Life yet, but when I heard Oprah was narrating my wife and I both immediately lost some interest.

They also had that dude from Dirty Jobs do one special they had, and he is a HORRIBLE narrator. I like him on DJ, but he needs to stay out of nature. Maybe its just me, but I think "old british dude" is the only way to go to get the most out of it :p

i know this is going to sound bad. but the narration track for a series like this really has to be done by a male... with a strong deep voice. just goes hand in hand like pb&j.

I would not have chosen Oprah... no matter how big of a star she is.. just kills it for me.

I have Planet Earth on blu-ray and pre-ordered the BBC version of Life. My kids (5 and 2 years old) LOVE watching these shows. But, I agree the narration is key. Weaver and Winfrey do not do these series justice. My personal pick would have been Leonard Nimoy to narrate the US version.

I really want to see this, but the narration by Oprah ruins it for me. The UK version won't play on PS3, so I'll have to wait till June.

David Attneborough on the "Planet Earth" DVD is excellent. I did not particularly mind Sigourney Weaver and thought she did an OK job. I can tolerate her...but not Oprah. Attenborough is just better than Weaver IMO.

I will not watch another minute of "Life" until the DVD arrives.

Scored from the UK, price was roughly 45 bucks shipped. The copy I have is narrated by David Attenborough.

Saw the first episode last night on my DVR, good series but agree about needing a different narrator. And I'm glad I recorded it....half the hour was commercials!

Now I definitely want the BBC version. I can wait til they release it over here though. I have a PS3 and if it doesn't play on that, no reason to get it.
