Default Looking to pick up these Polks tomorrow...

A fair shake at $75? They're very local. I haven't found many of these with black cabinets, either...

They look like Monitor 5's, if so I have a pair and they sound great. I don't know what the market bears for them my thinking is for $75 you can't go wrong.

I thought they looked like Monitor 7s? SL3000 tweeters? I dunno... they seem unusual to me for someone who's had a few pairs of 7s and 10s. But I've been out of the Polk scene for a bit... time to get back into it.

Jump on them. They definitely look like M7-II's. The passive radiator is definitely bigger than the M5-II's on my desk and there's a lot more space between the sides of the cabinet and the woofer.

$75 for Monitor 7's is not a bad deal at all. Can't tell which tweeter is in them but I'd change them to Peerless and upgrade the crossovers and you'll have a nice pair of speaks.

Monitor 7 Series II Studio's with SL2500 tweeters. I don't believe the Monitor series ever came with the SL3000's...someone correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

At $75, it's a no brainer. Go for it!!

Curt, finally getting back to 7's per your suggestion MONTHS ago. I had almost snagged some "minty" 10s last winter, only to discover they were far from that. Time to compile some gear again, much to my wife's chagrin. I'm also excited try a tweeter other than the 2000 or RDs! Hopefully all drivers are functional.

The SL2500 uses the RDO tweeter replacement. Simple drop in.

Good to hear I've had some good influence! The 7's really are some great sounding speakers. I've currently got a case of failing polyswitches in my SDA's, so I've had the 7A's back in my rig for a while now, and I'm still loving them.

Do the 2500 equipped speakers use the 194 or 198? I seem to recall that the 194 is the direct drop in, but they can be modded to use the 198's...

They should be the SL2500 tweeter. The replacement would be the RDO. The Peerless would require mods to the cabinet and to the XO values.

It appears these speakers have SL3000s... very metallic look. I'll follow-up with closer photos later. Would this denote the tweeters aren't stock? The guy I bought them from purchased them new in 1994.

The RDO-198 is a direct replacement for the SL2500. No need to mod the XO.

They look like Polk tweeters at least. The SL2500 & SL3000 are electrically compatible with the RDO-198-1 replacement tweeters (the RDO-194-1 was for SL1000 & SL2000).

Are you sure they're 3000's? As far as I know, none of the Monitor series speakers came with the SL-3000's. I'm pretty sure they used the SL-2500 tweeters in all of the Series II Monitors.

I believe the 2500's and the 3000's are essentially the same visually.

    Congrats on the new speakers!:D

    Monitors used SL2500.
    SDA's used SL3000.
The SL2500 is essential a low-priced SL3000; it takes some of the tech used in that tweet and makes it less expensive.
They are NOT the same visually. The SL2500 has a dull black dome surrounded in black foam. The SL3000 has a shiny black dome surrounded in black felt.
They're both electrically compatible; you CAN put an SL3000 in a Monitor Series 2 loudspeaker. The OO may have ordered them, from the factory, with the higher-end tweeter. While I've never seen the manual first-hand, I have heard that at least 1985 & 1991 SDA models were quite customizable, albeit expensive to customize, but they were available that way. Of course, basic models and veneers were much more popular.

No more pictures yet, but they do have the 2500s... once I took them out of the trunk (days later) I saw the foam surrounding.

Have since windexed the drivers and cleaned off the cabinets (in very good shape!) and Mortite around the drivers. Next will be the usual... RD0s and SoniCaps, but I have to get an amp and source too. Another budget system... hope to have it completed for under $400 for everything.
