Default Man I screwed up my LSI's....

I made a move from Iowa to Arizona about eight months ago. When I had my Lsi's in Iowa they were in a basement setup, fully enclosed not a lot of outside light.

Here in AZ there is a ton of sun of coarse. I was rearranging some stuff, noticed the sides of my LSI's are all faded (Ebony). Man was I freaking pissed.

So I pose this question. What should I do? Should I try to restain them? I have now taken steps for them not to get sun damaged again. But I am unsure on how to fix them.

I feel for ya Avalanche. I can understand the sun brutality out here. Not to joke, but the ebony of the LSi's is a fairly faded black in the first place, right? I don't remember if the thread a few months ago discussed if the wood was a real wood (Poplar if I remember correctly) or if it was a laminate.

If it's real wood, you could always re-stain it, maybe to something more of your liking (unless you liked that shade of ebony). Only thing that's gonna suck is that I think you're gonna have to take apart your speakers entirely to get that wood panel off.........

Would it come back to color if you used a furniture oil on it?

Thanks Brett. I know I would have to take apart the speakers.

MMax....hmmmm may have to try some Murphy's to see if that would work. Any other oil to recommend?

Also the Ebony on mine was fairly dark. I would say a dark brown to almost black. Now one side of each speaker is a grayish chalk color

    avelanchefan,

There is no oil or wax that will bring back the color and do not use Murphy's Oil Soap. It is a vegetable oil based product ....crap. More than likely they were colored using a NGR dye that has UV protection, but strong sun will fade any dye or stain quickly. The only real solution is to have them stripped, colored and refinished. If you want them to be "black", let me know and I'll tell you how it should be done.

Just an FYI, but I have an old pair of M4s that have faded from age and sun. It doesn't fully restore them, but a good coating of Old English furniture oil makes them look 100% better.
