creating a 7.1 setup from (2) RM85 systems

Hello All -

I came across a really good deal for a set of new polk rm85's. I wanted the 7.1 setup, but didn't want to pay $250 for (2) RM8's. Low and behold I was able to get another new set of Polk rm85's. so now i have (2) set of RM85's. so my question is:

What would be the ideal speaker placement for a 7.1 setup?

i'm assuming:

RM7s up front w/ Center speaker,
RM8's on side
RM8's in the rear?

(then keep the other two rm7's and center speaker as spares, or buy (2) RM7's and have another setup for another room?)

The most important thing to remember when looking into 7.1 is if your room will allow it. Room size is one of the biggest determining factors when it comes to speaker placement/configuration. A well setup/placed 5.1 will outperform a cramped up 7.1 anyday. You have the general idea of placement right, and I will include a link to both THX and Dolby Digital's speaker placement guides. Does that speaker package come with a sub? If not, I would look into getting a sub to help out. Good luck, and welcome to Club Polk.
