Default LOOKING FOR A SUB....What would work best?

I've been looking at subs, and wanted to know what the polk audio posters think. My room is 24x36, and need a little more boom in my HT system.
Thanks,

What is the ceiling height? Remember you are trying to pressurize cubic footage. Not square.

Regardless you will need something that can move some air. I would recommend the Klipsch P312w since you didn't mention a budget. Better make it a pair

For a room that size i would think you need something with a big driver! I have a Velodyne 10" and it pound's pretty good but i'm shure there is better, soemone with more experience/knowledge will chime in for shure....

Not a damn bit Sir.
You are of course giving excellent advice thuffman03.

Besides what Mr. thuffman03 is suggesting, I personally would scour EBay for a Velodyne with at least a 15inch woofer.------

At that low a level I would keep output vs extension. How many movie tracks have LFE information in the 9Hz range.

I hear 0Hz is just to die for

Most of those subs that are listed above are too rich for my blood....looking at spending up to $500.00 for a good solid sub. Ive been looking at Polks Micro 1000 and 3000. Is the 1000 to small for a room thats 24x36 and ceiling height is 10-12 feet

I think in order to truly pressurize that room properly, you're going to have to double or tripe your budget.

The 1000 is going to be too small.

If you could sqeeze it up to $600, the smallest EPIK is on sale the last I saw. Non ported but Epik is known for good subs at reasonable prices. I'm in a similar situation. The Epik should also be good for music.
I doubt if any sub in that price range will pressurize that size room but you should be able to find some decent sounding ones. The only other route would be to make one, which some people have done.

If you're looking at the Polk subs, then you're going to need the best that they offer. And probably two of them.

I would consider the BIC H100 X 2 with your $500 budget. That or go DIY. You are most likely going to want a stereo sub setup.

If you only have $500 to spend then you only have $500 to spend. For now that is going to be your best bet.

Get youself a pair of Polk DSW600's. Polk Direct on ebay has them.
I recently purchased my second DSW600 and received it today.
They are going for under $400 each plus shipping.

Start with one, then add another later.

I think with that budget, DIY would give you the most bang for the buck. That is assuming you choose components carefully. A good efficient 15" or two in a large ported enclosure and say a 500 watt plate amp could make some pretty good noise. I don't know about SQ, but it would be loud Your particular situation is going to be a bit of a compromise if you aren't able to raise the budget It's kind of like saying you need the performance and crazy power of a Shelby GT 500 for the price of a V6 mustang unfortunately...Sometimes you can get lucky with a find on ebay or CL though

If I had 500 to spend on a sub, I'd go used.I would look on e-bay or audiogon to try & find something within driving distance to save on shipping cost, thereby letting you get a little more sub for the 500.

Just an example here & I realize it's 50 + shipping over your budget
