PSW505 - leave on standby/auto or power down?

If this question has been answered before in this forum - I apologize. I'm new to Polk and just getting back into my home theater after being in hell (married) for the last few years.

My question is regarding my PSW505 and what the best choice is for power management. Is it best to turn it on/off, to leave in auto mode, or switch it to standby and back on when needed?

Part of the reason I ask is I am damaged goods thanks to my JBL PB12. I would leave it in auto mode and one night while we were all sleeping it just started rumbling, woke the whole house up, and I ended having to unplug it to shut it off. The amp went not too long after. The sub was unrepairable thanks to JBL discontinuing parts, which in the end was a blessing because it led me to a better Polk sub.

I just want to take the best care of my sub possible, and would also not like a repeat of the above. The only thing that should shake the house during the night is my snoring!

Auto, or put it and all you other gear on a surge unit with a power on/off option for simplicity. That's a great musical sub, welcome to the boards and thanks for choosing Polk Audio!

Welcome to CP! I don't have that particular sub but any sub i have ever owned was always on "auto"

thanks for the replies - auto is working just fine.

Russ - i agree...great musical sub. Bass is much cleaner and tighter than my old JBL. this has me thinking of replacing my front JBL's with monitor 60's or 70's next!

Welcome to the Club,

Auto for me as well...I used to have a Polk PSW12 hardlly as good as the 505...always left it on AUTO...never failed me....since than, all the subs I've had are on AUTO as well..no problems.

Also I'd recommend the M70s if you have the room....I run those and they're a great entry value speaker for music and HT for the dollar!

What are you using as an AVR?

Thanks CNH - I was liking the M70's as well, very reasonably priced and will hold me over until I win the lottery!

My AVR is a Sony DA3200ES - 120w RMS x 7.

If you're going to have a Sony AVR ES is definitely the way to go....that should have enough juice to run the Polks and also have enough ins/and outs/processing and probably pre-outs.

So you're good!
