klipsch amp???

Could I use the amp on my ksw 15 (265w cont. 800w peak) to power a D.I.Y. sud, and would it be difficult to do? I' ve hooked up alot of car subs, but never try a home audio sub is there a lot of difference.

Would'nt be any more difficult than any other sub amp. Cut the hole for the amp, and attach the two speaker wires to the driver.

Or you could build a box for the amp, and leave the amp external. Then if you didn't like the amp, you could change it without building a new sub box.

The best bang for your buck sub driver is the Dayton Audio Quatro 15:

Almost 92db efficient, that 265w plate amp will work perfectly with this. Most of the guys on the speaker building sites use the Dayton 240w plate amp, so you'll be just fine. There are also plans on the page I linked.

You might see if www.ascendantaudio.com has any more of the Avalanche 15's. They are a steal and sound very good in my opinion. I've got a brand new 12" Avalanche just sitting right now. I don't know its ultmimate use yet.

What is wrong with the Klipsch? I don't care much for their regular speakers, but the subs I've heard some really good.

I'd contact Klipsch before you try it. chances are the amp has some sort of EQ that is used to get the FR flat or get a little bit more extesion out of their sub. The EQ could really mess with a DIY design, or even ruin your new driver.

I asked Polk the same thing about my PSW450 amp and they advised against using it for DIY subs.

well okiepolkie, I guess nothing is really wrong with Klipsch ,but all the folks here have said how much better SVS,HSU, and alot of DIY subs are that its just got me wondering if I can do better without having to drop a wad of money on new sub
