Question Sealed Enclosure Damping

Hi,

What effect does damping a sealed enclosure have on the interenal volume "seen" by the driver?

Thanks for your time...

It depends on how much material that you install into the enclosure. If it is densly packed, then the volume that the driver sees can be up to 20 percent larger than the enclosure. The damping material also helps to cool the compressed air in the enclosure and act as a heatsink. The downside can be if too much material is installed you can over damp the enclosure and this will reduce the output of the woofer. The industry standard for this practice is to install 1 pound of polyfill per 1 cubic feet. You will find that some woofers may sound better with no or little damping material, and that some will benefit by installing it.
Bottom line... install it, listen to it and see if it makes an improvement in the woofers' performance.

Happy Bass Listening!!
