What Will SurroundBar Do For Me?
The SurroundBar, SurroundBar 50 and SurroundBar 360º DVD Theater are perfect complements to flat screen TV's when a room full of speakers and wires is not practical. Polk Audio SurroundBars deliver room filling, enveloping surround sound from a sleek, low-profile compact package independent of their placement in any room.
How Are SurroundBars Mounted?

To work properly SurroundBars must be mounted horizontally, with no obstructions next to the speaker. The SurroundBar 360 speaker bar can be mounted in the following ways:

  • On a flat surface using one set of the included stands. One set is 'low" and the other is "high".
  • Attached directly to the wall using 2 screws with the 2 integrated keyhole slots.

SurroundBar and SurroundBar 50 can be mounted in a variety of ways to accommodate almost any application:

  • Placed in front of and below your TV with the included non-slip cradle(s).
  • Attached directly to a wall with the included, easy-to-install two-piece bracket.
  • With aftermarket mounts such as the Sanus VMCC-1, Peerless MSA-301 or OmniMount EAR-C.
  • Mounted to the top of certain projection TV's with our Optional Mount. Note- this bracket will not work with most plasma TVs; the TV should be at least 3" in depth at the top. The Optional Mount will evenly distribute SurroundBar's weight.
What Are The Differences Between SurroundBar Models and Which Is Right For Me?
There are three SurroundBar models to fit almost every application. Regardless of which SurroundBar you choose, be prepared to experience full-fledged 5-channel surround sound from one speaker. If you already have a receiver and DVD player, or have your heart set on one, there are two passive SurroundBar models to meet your needs. Both are available in either black or titanium. Just add a Digital Surround Receiver, a Subwoofer, your TV and you're ready to go!

If you want an easy all-in-one integrated system, and don't plan on using or don't have an existing amplifier, SurroundBar 360º DVD Theater is an all-inclusive Home Theater system that includes a DVD player, AM/FM tuner with integrated amplifier, and universal remote control.

How Can SurroundBar Give Surround Sound From Only One Speaker?
SDA® stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, a patented Polk Audio exclusive [US Patent # 6937737]. Matthew Polk describes SDA Surround Technology as "a mixture of acoustical engineering, psychoacoustic principles and a little magic."

Learn more about SDA® Technology here.

SurroundBar 360° DVD Theater features the even more powerful SDA Digital Surround.
What sets SurroundBar apart from the rest?
SDA® Surround Technology is an exclusive patented Polk Audio invention. No other surround technology can produce the enveloping sound as well as SurroundBar with SDA Surround Technology. Some "5-channel-in-1 bar" designs attempt to create surround sound by reflecting sound off surrounding wall surfaces. This works well if you have a perfect room with symmetrical walls (or a dedicated sound laboratory) with no other obstructions in the room and the perfect seating spot. However in the real world- plants, furniture, pets and other people fill up the room. The speakers and TV are frequently are not placed in the ideal locations and are often not even setup properly. The listener may not even be in the best listening location. SurroundBar solves all these problems, because it can be used in any location, from the center to the corner, with or without walls.
How Does It Connect?/How Hard Is Setup?
SurroundBar and SurroundBar 50 both connect to your A/V receiver with a color coded wiring harness for easy connection. Setting up SurroundBar and SurroundBar 50 is straightforward.

On a conventional multi-speaker setup, not only do you have multiple runs of cable, you also must adjust numerous settings in your receiver. With SurroundBar, all the complex wiring and adjustments is simplified. Just wire it up, make a few simple adjustments and you're ready to go.

For SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater, take the components out of the box and position accordingly. Connect the power cord. Connect a video cable to your TV. Connect the included single speaker cable to the speaker bar. Turn on the system and you're ready to go.
Which Subwoofer Is Recommended To Use With SurroundBar?
SurroundBar and SurroundBar 50 we strongly recommend a subwoofer. For SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater a subwoofer is not required, however a subwoofer output jack is provided if you want to connect a subwoofer.

Any good quality subwoofer may be used, though we recommend Polk Audio subwoofers for the best match. When choosing a subwoofer for your system, take these factors into account:
  • The size and furnishings of your room. The larger your room (tall ceilings, open walls), the more powerful your subwoofer should be to fill the room with bass.
  • The program material you want to play through your system. Comedies, talk radio and the 6 PM News will require a less powerful subwoofer then action movies or concert videos.
  • Decide how much bass you want from your home theater system. If you want big, chest collapsing bass that you can feel, or you like to put on loud dance parties, you'll want a powerful subwoofer.

The PSW111 is a wonderful compact companion styled to match the SurroundBar series. However, other good quality subwoofers may also be teamed with SurroundBar. For louder or larger home theater applications, we recommend our PSW125, DSW PRO 500, DSW Pro 600 or the PSW1000. For the ultimate in stealth, our installed hidden subwoofers will make the subwoofer disappear completely!
Can I use SurroundBar or SurroundBar 50 as front Left, Center, Right (L/C/R) only?
Yes, SurroundBar or SurroundBar 50 may be used as front L/C/R only if you have rear speakers. Leave the Surround Left and Surround Right terminals empty and connect only the Front Left, Center and Front Right terminals.
Can I use my SurroundBar or SurroundBar 50 with rear surround speakers if I want to?
Yes, though our SurroundBar & SurroundBar 50 is meant to be a solution for those who want surround sound but don't want to install rear channel speakers. Three options are available for using SurroundBar with rear channel speakers. (We recommend the RM Series Satellites for the best match.)

  • Good - Hook up two rear channel speakers to the surround channels in the usual way but connect nothing to the rear channel inputs on the Surround Bar. In this case the Surround Bar is being used just like a conventional L/C/R sound bar. You will get all of the audio performance of SurroundBar for the front Left, Center, Right channels and the conventional rear channel performance from your hard-wired rear channel speakers. The surround drivers in the SurroundBar are simply not used in this option.
  • Better - Hook up the rear surround speakers as in 1) above but also connect the surround channels of the receiver to the rear channel inputs of SurroundBar. The hard-wired rear surround speakers must be 8 ohms or greater for this option. This option will give conventional rear channel performance plus the wrap-around soundstage of SurroundBar, which will fill in the sides of the soundstage.
  • Best - For the best alternative, if you have a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver, hook up either a single rear channel speaker or two surround back speakers to the "surround back" speaker outputs of the receiver. Then, hook up the rest of the channels, including the left and right surround, to the SurroundBar as usual. It combines the ability of SurroundBar to deliver continuous wrap-around soundstage with solid rear imaging from the single hard-wired rear speaker(s).
What applications are best for SurroundBar?
Polk Audio SurroundBars offer the best surround experience available for anyone who wants better sound from their TV but don't want to install rear channel speakers. Sometimes, it's just not practical to install rear channel speakers. TV's located in corners, odd shaped rooms, narrow rooms, outdoor locations, or bedrooms where it's impossible to install speakers behind your listening location, are all good applications for our SurroundBars.

SurroundBar and SurroundBar 50 are single speaker bars that must be used with an outboard 5.1 channel receiver and powered subwoofer.

SurroundBar 360º DVD Theater is the best choice, if you want an all-in-one integrated system, and don't plan on using or don't have any existing electronics.
