SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater Questions:

How do I know if I can hook Instant Home Theater to my TV?
Your TV has to have some sort of stereo line audio output- either fixed, variable or headphone. If your TV does not have audio output, you can also hook it directly to the audio outputs (usually red and white) of your source component (e.g. DVD player, cable/satellite box, video game system, etc.)

What is so great about the Instant Home Theater over my TV speakers?
TV picture quality and audio has improved considerably in the past few years, particularly with HDTV and Blu-Ray. However the onboard TV speakers are mediocre at best, sounding tinny and nasal with no bass. You've got great picture quality, so don't miss half the action with mediocre sound.

What is the difference between this SurroundBar and the other Polk Models?
A SurroundBar Instant Home Theater is a self contained, two channel sound bar with patented SDA Technology and includes a wireless subwoofer. It hooks to your existing (or newly purchased) TV.

Surroundbar 42 and SurroundBar 50 are passive speaker bars requiring hookup to an A/V Surround Receiver.

SurroundBar 360° DVD Theater is an all-in-one DVD player, radio tuner, amplifier and speaker package that requires no subwoofer- just hook to your TV.

How is SurroundBar Instant Home Theater better than competing models on the market?
SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater features patented Polk SDA Technology- for expanded sound- sounding far wider than the physical confines of the speaker. Other sound bars sound like speakers placed on of the TV. SDA Technology brings you a far wider sound field.

Do I have to buy any other electronics or speakers?
A No, SurroundBar Instant Home Theater is completely self-contained and has all the amplification needed. It works with your existing TV and any components connected to it.

Can I hook up other speakers or subwoofers to Instant Home Theater?
No, Instant Home Theater is completely self contained and has no provisions for adding additional speakers. If you're looking for more bass, in most applications you can also connect Polk's PSWi225 wireless subwoofer.

Is the sub really wireless?
Yes. Though you still have to feed it electricity.

This is remote control capable?
Yes, if your TV does not have variable audio outputs but has fixed outputs, it will learn the volume up/down and mute commands from your existing TV remote. This makes SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater compatible with practically every TV.

Do I have to use it with a TV?
No, it's a fully functional stand alone audio system. You can connect any device (except a phonograph) with line audio output directly to the Instant Home Theater and get full bodied home theater sound.

Should I turn off the TV speakers when using Instant Home Theater?
Yes, sound coming from the TV will smear with that coming from the Instant Home Theater. For best results, turn off the TV speakers.

How do I turn off the TV speakers?
It depends on the TV. Most TVs have an option in an onscreen setup menu. Others have a switch on the back. Others you may be able to physically unplug the speakers. And on others equipped with a headphone jack, inserting a 1/8" plug usually mutes the TV speakers. Refer to your TVs owner's manual to determine how to turn off the TV speakers.
