RM6000 Sub/Sat Home Theater Speaker System Press Brief
Why a Sub/Sat Speaker System?
Customers are absolutely captivated by the idea that a very small speaker can serve their needs. In 1998 nearly one in four US loudspeaker buyers purchased a coffee cup sized sub/sat system. Their small size and ready ability to be wall mounted make sub/sats the easiest to use and place loudspeaker type.
Polk Audio were pioneers of the sub/sat category by introducing the RM3000 system in 1990. The RM6000 is the latest in a long line of sub/sat models that have enjoyed wide critical and sales success.
In contrast to many other budget su/sat speaker systems, the RM6000 is an excellent music speaker. We urge that your first listen to the system be done with 2-channel music to establish that the RM6000 is first and foremost a good sounding speaker.
System Set-up
We have found the hook-up method that offers the best performance is as follows:
Connect the amp’s L&R front speaker outputs to the front speaker level inputs on the subwoofer. Connect the speaker level outputs on the subwoofer to the front L&R satellite speakers. Connect the center and surround satellites directly to the receiver’s center and surround speaker outputs. The "Bass Management" or "Speaker Set-up" function of the Dolby Digital receiver or processor should be set as follows: Front = Large, Center = Small, Surrounds = Small, Subwoofer = No.
There are other hook-up methods but we urge you to use this method. Feel free to contact Paul DiComo [pdicomo@polkaudio.com] if you have any questions about hook up options.
Technical and Feature Highlights
- Available finishes: Black and Titanium
- All satellite and center midrange drivers and tweeters are identical for perfect timbre matching and seamless imaging.
- 3" (7.6cm) polymer/mineral composite midrange drivers or low distortion and excellent inner detail (two used on the center speaker to better handle the high output demands placed on it).
- ½" (12mm) silk dome tweeter for smooth and extended high frequency response.
- A small value Mylar bypass cap across the main (non-polar electrolytic) cap in the crossover’s high-pass section improves high frequency extension.
- The Front, Surround and Center satellites feature key-hole slots for wall mounting. Screw inserts on the back of the cabinets allow use of floor-stands and fully articulating wall brackets.
- The subwoofer enclosure is fabricated with ¾" MDF to control panel resonance for tight, uncolored bass response.
- The subwoofer port is flared at both ends to minimize port noise "chuffing."
- Subwoofer driver features a vented pole piece to cool the voice coil for improved power handling and dynamic range.
- All of the satellites and the subwoofer are magnetically shielded for safe placement next to TVs and video monitors.
- Satellite and center enclosures are injection molded polymer resin.
- The wire terminals on the satellites are recessed to allow snug wall mounting.
- Subwoofer amp features continuously variable low pass filter 80 – 160 Hz, phase switch, volume control, auto on/off with manual override, Line and Speaker level inputs.
