Baltimore, MD-May 12, 2004—Today Polk Audio announced a new addition to their line of db Series automotive aftermarket speakers—a 5¼" component system. The db5250 joins the db6500 and db6750 component systems introduced in spring 2003. The db Series is positioned as the “better” line under the “best” Polk/MOMO Series. Whereas the Polk/MOMO lines stands for ultimate performance for serious hobbyists, the db Series emphasis is value and easy drop-in fit.

"Five-and-a-quarter-inch component speaker sales have been dwarfed by six-and-a-half-inch models in recent years," said Polk 12V Product Line Manager Mark Suskind. "But the 5¼" size is still important. There are spaces where you just can’t fit a larger driver—like the kick panels in most vehicles and the doors of many import cars. Our dealers and consumers expect us to be a full-line supplier and meet all of their needs. Introducing the db5250 is just one more example of how we listen to our customers and respond."

The db models have been styled with “tuner” automotive enthusiasts in mind—from the wheel style grilles to the textured driver cones, db says “hot car.” But Polk's db series offers much more than great styling. The full force of Polk Audio’s award-winning engineering went into developing high performance to match the cosmetics. The db5250 benefits from Polk’s Dynamic Balance technology that stems from a joint research project between Johns Hopkins University's Center for Non Destructive Evaluation and Polk Audio.

The db5250 5¼" mid/woofer's Dynamic Balance Polymer/Mica Composite Cone is stiff yet lightweight for big sound, with low distortion. Its durable Butyl Rubber Surround won’t fall apart under the stress of extreme temperatures, sunlight or time, for years of the great Polk sound. A Heat Sink on the pole plate promotes better heat dissipation for superior power handling and reliability. The driver basket features a pincushion design and shallow depth for easy drop-in installations in practically any car on the road.

The db5250 features a 19mm Silk/Polymer composite Dome Tweeter at a price point where 12mm tweeters are usually offered. The tweeter features a neodymium magnet and Liquid Cooling. Both surface and flush mounting cups are supplied and allow the tweeters to swivel up to 15 degrees. db owners will enjoy greater power handling as well as clearer, more detailed high frequency response.

The outboard crossovers feature a 2nd-order Butterworth filters for fiddle-free perfect sound. The Vented Crossover Housing allows a choice of hidden wire channels for easier, more professional-looking installs while an Electronic Tweeter Protection Circuit protects tweeters from accidental abuse.

The new Polk db5250 component system loudspeakers will be available in authorized Polk Audio US and Canadian retailers in June 2004 at a suggested retail price of $209.95.
