Today Polk Audio announced the addition of a 5.25-inch component/coaxial convertible full-range system, as well as 12-inch and 10-inch component subwoofers to join the SR6500 component system to form the Signature Reference series of automotive loudspeakers. The SR series is Polk’s best and is the ultimate expression of Polk's 22-year experience of developing superior performance mobile speakers. It is designed with the serious listener in mind—a listener who is serious about the accurate reproduction of music and movie soundtracks in a mobile environment.

The SR5250 is the smaller version of the SR6500 6.5-inch model introduced in the summer of 2005, a speaker described as “The best performance, the best cosmetics, the best engineered” by Car Audio & Electronics magazine. Like the SR6500 the new SR5250 features a state-of-the-art Ring Radiator tweeter, an Aerated Polypropylene cone and other advanced technologies. The product may be used either as a three-piece separate component system or as a coaxial speaker with outboard crossover. The SR5250 will ship to dealers in February 2006 at the MSRP of $899 in the USA and $1199 in Canada.

Fleshing out the Signature line are the ultra-performance the SR124, and SR104 subwoofers, available in either single or dual voice coil configurations. Both models are designed to provide competition-grade bass performance when installed in small sealed enclosures (.9 and .7 cubic foot respectively). Each model uses a massive die-cast aluminum basket to house the 16 pound motor structure. A 2.5 inch glass/epoxy voice coil former wound with four layers of heavy gauge Aluminum wire provides the highest power handling and reliability of any subwoofer driver in Polk’s history. The voice coil is bathed in cooling air via an extensive network of vents in the pole piece and basket. Specially designed curved vanes smooth the airflow to prevent any air turbulence that could cause noise and “chuffing.” Dual spiders tightly control cone motion for the ultimate in “tight,” detailed and musical bass.

Like all Polk drivers designed in the past few years, the SR woofers were tuned with the help of Polk’s Klippel Distortion Analyzer, an advanced tool that uses laser technology to measure and optimize driver behavior under high output conditions. With the Klippel tool Polk engineers were able to maximize linearity, minimize distortion, flatten and extend frequency response.

The SR124 and SR104 will ship to North American retailers in February 2006 at MSRPs of $425 and $375 respectively in the USA and $510 and $450 in Canada.
