Self powered, Crisp, Clean, Adjustable, and on and on and on.
I couldn't find a flaw if I tried.
As a home theatre dealer myself, I have this center channel in my theatre and this is the only center channel that I can fully justify and recommend to my customers for their dedicated home theatres. The CS1000p covers all diologue flawlessly without distortion or weakness. Way to go Polk, you've done it again.

Good balance for a center channel speaker.
I was concerned about the weight (it is pretty heavy for a center) on a rear projection T.V. so had to build a shelf to accomodate it but that's really not a weakness to be held against it.
I wasn't going to replace my CS400i center but this came with RT5000 set up so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a shot. I was expecting something too overpowering for a center channel and was surprised to find it NOT the case at all. It doesn't overdo the lower frequencies at all and actually gives a much fuller and acurate sound. Especially when listening to deep vocals.

Incredible frequency response and the ability to take lots of power. Built-in sub helps too.
Built-in sub can be overpowering and cause muddy dialog if not adjusted properly. Cost could deter those on an entry-to-mid size budget.
Being a long time owner of Polk's SDA-1C floor standing speakers isn't easy. The SDA series sounds so phenomenal, I was concerned that I would never find a center channel to timbre match them. Thanks to Polk, the CS1000p was just the ticket! This is a massive center channel speaker that takes two people to hoist upon a speaker stand, or place into a cabinet. Once in place, it's easy to realize that you got what you paid for. Voices come through with depth I've never heard in a home theater system before. This is the finest center channel speaker I've seen for home use.

this is what a full range is suppose to sound like. bottom to top. very smooth.
after reading the review in sght and hearing it at cc i had to add it to my 1000i's to complete my fronts. after all this time nothing else comes close to the performance of the cs1000p. great speaker hands down.you should just listen to sacd in 5 full range speakers. no going back to cd. as for the heft, make yourself a good shelf and get on with the sound.

Build Quality, awesome range,Value (now that you can find them used(if you find them))Subwoofers adjustable knob in the front.
Heavy, huge size. but are those really weaknesses considering build quality...
I picked up one of these of craigslist...a dark cherry one, has a much better sound that my cs400, It might be because the mid cabinet is sealed instead of ported. All I know is if you can find one of these in good condition for less than $500... jump at the chance to get one, just make sure you have the room. Keep in mind that this thing has 2-6.5" powered subs, they are not going to get as low as other seperate powered subs, but they do give you very full sound and complement the 2-6.5" midranges.

Fantastic Imaging and soundstage! Great center fill from the CS1000p!
This unit was purchased with the RT5000p system and has done nothing but impress! The center channel information on DVD & Blu-Ray really shines with this center speaker. I have had it for some 10 plus years and continues to perform flawlessly everyday! To me for home theater there is simply nothing better than the RT 5000p system.I have this system in my sound room powered by a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and Adcom power to the satellites. There is nothing better period!! Thanks Matthew Polk!!

Richard Hardesty, Widescreen Review, May/June 1999
"It is one of the few horizontally oriented center channel speakers that I have heard that doesn't present a dramatic change in tonality as the listener moves across the horizontal soundfield. This is due to the tapered crossover design. It is hard to fault the CS1000p in any way. It sounds good and it is capable of playing at very high levels. This center channel has bass but avoids the chesty sound of some other full range units. Dialogue is presented naturally and is always clear and intelligible."
