db691
6x9-inch coaxial 3-way mobile/marine loudspeaker
6" x 9" coaxial
15.24cm x 22.86cm coaxial
Incredible Sound, Affordable Price
That rear deck is aching for thunderous loudspeakers like the db691 6x9-inch 3-way loudspeakers, featuring both a 25mm liquid-cooled dome tweeter, a 19mm super tweeter and plenty of Polk technology that makes db Series mobile audio loudspeakers a great choice.
db691 Features:
Dynamic Balance® driver technology for pure, distortion free sound.
Neodymium is a rare earth material we use in virtually all db driver magnets. These magnets are about 1/10 the weight of a comparable ceramic magnet and much more powerful. The smaller magnet also helps keep the db691 compact, so it fits easily into more applications.
Composite cones feature excellent stiffness-to mass ratio. The cone’s low mass produces fast transients and good detail.
Klippel optimized components for consistent, distortion-free sound.
Marine Certified means the db6911 is built tough to withstand the harshest environments on the water.
Wheel-inspired style combines with rugged durability in the db grille.
All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

everything. I don't see a down side here...
Weaknesses:
None. Not even close to having a weakness.
Review:
Bought these to replace the Pioneer TS-A6961R's for the back deck of a '99 Grand Am SE. I actually thought the pioneer's sounded good until I got these in. WoW! Huge difference. I almost don't need a sub. Bass is better then I expected, and highs don't 'screech' like some speakers do when you turn it up. no problems. the 691's also drop right into the factory holders and I didn't even need to change over the grills. they will fit right under the deck cover - No Probs. I just wish Visions here in Calgary would carry more Polk. Like to see some MM's come in!

They sound very natural and can be considered to be entry level audiophile stuff when it comes to the Mid bass and the upper highs. I am running them off Head Unit right now and the speakers sound a little muffled at higher volumes but I owe that to my JVC KD BT1. I am adding an amplifier soon and hope them to be even better now.
Weaknesses:
Nothing as such. Giving it a 4 only for they are not very good at the lows. They dont go much deep and dont sound as good when they are forced to kick some bass. But then what are Sub woofers for ? They actually do a great job in say above 200Hz range. The speakers might disappoint someone if he/she wants to skip a sub but that too is a matter of subjectivity.
Review:
These are amazing speakers. Definitely worth mentioning that they can take in more power than they are supposed to. The build quality is top notch.

Review:
These speakers really rock w/ My Eclipse Stereo and I bought the db651's in the front to match. The bass is amazing and I'm not running an amb yet. Worth the money by far. The Clarity is amazing.

Absolutely the best sound for the money.
Weaknesses:
When really pushed the whole range begins to sound compressed. Maybe this is my amplification. It doesn't happen until they're pushed to the point I'm losing my hearing, though--so not much of an issue.
Review:
You might consider my review an informed one. My living room floats monitor audio, thiel, vintage KEF, monoblock tube amps, mcintosh--nothing lightweight. Critical listening is something of a hobby. I had Polk Audio's 6.5" db speaker in the rear and front of my accord and was initially disappointed when my vigor called for the 6x9's. Oblong speakers are given to flaws in sound production by their very nature. One is hard spent to find them here, however. Bass is even, undistorted--particularly when properly amplified; mids are natural without offensive dips in response in the low mid or crossover point; voices clear; and best of all--the highs lack all the typical fatiguing harshness of budget 3-way speakers. Well done, Polk! If anyone reading this out there who has 6x9 holes in their rear deck currently filled with sony, pioneer, kenwood, kicker, et al--or god forbid, factory speakers, doesn't replace at the current circuit city store closing price, well, you just can't be helped.

Great Mid-bass response, excellent power handling, very clean sound. If you're skipping a sub, or want clean loud sound these can't be beat. Nothing out there can compare to the sound quality & SPL for the price.
Weaknesses:
Haven't heard the Polk Momo's so I can't tell you if they're worth the extra $$$.
Review:
Very clean speakers. Exelent bass response. Cone moves very linear despite 6x9 design. I installed a pair of these in a Mazda 323 on the rear deck recently. My father in law did the clutch in my truck, so as a return favor I installed these in his car with a 60 WPC amp. Very impressive sound. Very clean, love the Silk dome tweeters. I am a audio snob and these pass the test. I have Klipsch RF3's at home ($1000/pr towers), cheap polk bookshelf speakers, JL Audio speakers in my honda and Infinity's in my Nissan. Infinity's used to be nice for the original kappas, but the mid-range has gone to crap in the newer designs. The JL Audio Components are very clean and nice, but they aren't as efficient as the Polk DB's and cost about 50% more. The Polk's have an excellent balance of high quality sound with high power handling and a very value orientied price. For future purchases I could definitly see sticking with multiple Polk DB's for the Quality/Value ratio.

Just after 2 days of buying these speakers, I got to know that I have got "The Best Speakers" in the market. No need of amp, or sub-woofer, looks like this speaker comes with both built-in. Excellent sound output. My car audio configuration. 1) Pioneer DEH-P5090UB player. 2) DB691 Rear spearkers 3) 4" JBL speakers (Front). (I had no idea, that POLK front speakers are available, hence went for JBL)

Review:
Awesome sound with crystal clear highs, deep low bass when you provide the power. Mine are running off of an MTX Thunder 704x with 70W RMS each. Installed with dynamat so there is no rattle and also no real need for a sub. Had installed in 06 monte carlo stock stereo. Clearer bass provided from ipod or other mp3 player. Also because of the low range of the woofer and the highs of the tweeter and super tweeter there is a natural mid scoop. I prefer this but some might not although i have noticed more high end speakers omitting mid-range drivers from 6x9s. When you set up the amp be sure to adjust the gain properly. The best way to do this is to set the gain so that the loudest you want the speakers to be is at 3/4 volume of the head unit.

Review:
I've got a pair of these running on a Pioneer pre in my Suzuki swift. Even without an amp and a sub these speakers sound awesome: they give you clear balanced sound without any distortion. I installed a 4 channel 45W RMS amp and a pioneer 12" sub with these and the system just sounds awesome. I will replace the pioneer with Polk's 8" sub very soon. I will also get these installed with a Polk 8" sub and Polk 6.5" coaxials in my other car. Amazing sound quality, cheers!

I have thrown the sub out, these speakers are so good. Here in Sydney Australia I went to an audio shop to buy some speakers and the salesman was trying to sell me Krapwood. I said I want Polk and here turned to me with eyes wide open and said " now thats are great speaker". These speakers just blew me away, I am speechless. My fader is permanently on the rears so I can listen to these amazing speakers.Polk, you have a great product but you need to spread the word. All power to Polk!
