DSWmicroPRO 4000
1200 Watt 12-inch subwoofer.
The Heavyweight Prizefighter
Holy smokes, this subwoofer plays so low you won’t even hear it. That’s right: here’s a speaker you can’t even hear! It’s down there below 20Hz, positively subterranean. But oh you’ll feel it. Because this is the biggest and the baddest of the superior DSWmicroPRO Series. A 12-inch Dynamic Balance® woofer coupled with a downward firing 12x12-inch bass radiator, and 1200 continuous Watts of clean crumple-your-foundation power. This is the subwoofer that will knock your socks right off. For unbelievably huge movie and gaming effects, and the most lifelike musical bass possible, the DSWmicroPRO4000 is the way to go. Do two. We dare you!
DSWmicroPRO 4000 Features:
1200 Watts of continuous power, 2400 Watts peak!
Digital intelligent amp technology requires less power to sound great, uses the power you give it more efficiently, and knows when to stand down (especially at low volumes or in “Standby” mode).
Smart sensing circuitry knows when to turn itself on and off.
Superior compression circuitry limits distortion at extreme volume levels.
Feed forward distortion suppression technology knows in advance how the woofer’s acoustic system will respond to the output signal from the amplifier, and stops signals that could cause distortion or damage before they even get to the driver, for the biggest possible bass response with the least distortion or risk of damage.
The Polk Room Optimizer™ (PRO) gives you four preset “room optimizers” to choose from, allowing you to program in the optimal bass and blending setting for your specific room.
The Automatic Polk Room Optimizer (AutoPRO) uses a tiny microphone (included) to take actual samples of the performance in your room and from your exact listening position, and adjust your subwoofer’s optimum performance accordingly.
Heavy duty MDF enclosures are designed and engineered for perfect volume, minutely tuned for distortion-free low frequencies, and internally braced and damped to eliminate internal standing waves and other performance-robbing resonances.
Furniture-grade piano gloss black finish matches today’s high tech TVs, furniture and speakers. (Matte finish on DSWmicroPRO1000.)
State-of-the-art Klippel distortion analysis clears the path for instantaneous dynamic response by optimizing the woofer’s motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for smooth, unimpeded movement over a broad spectrum of the lower frequencies, even at extreme listening levels.
Polk Audio’s proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
More rigid under fire than any stamped steel, Polk’s cast aluminum baskets will never flex, even at extreme listening levels. Specially designed side vents encourage air circulation, keeping the voice coil cooler and more efficient.
The unique shape of the inverted dust cap provides extreme stiffness, while the lightweight cone material ensures fast response and effortless movement. Extra rigidity is achieved by attaching the drive mechanism via the ABS cone coupler.
Durable rubber surrounds allow incredible “travel,” and won’t break down even after relentless pounding.
A unique double stacked magnet structure maximizes the motor’s pulling power, enhancing its efficiency.
The dual spider design, on both the woofer and the bass radiator, ensure better linear control even at maximum volume.
Our exclusive downward-firing, quadrilateral bass radiator design has more radiating area in less space than the traditional circular design. With less space needed for ports or tubes, the DSWmicroPRO Series has smaller enclosure sizes that produce surprisingly bigger bass response.
Multiple power management options: You can turn the subwoofer on and off manually with your remote control, or let it turn itself on and off with its automatic signal sensing feature, or use the 12-volt trigger input connected to a 12-volt output of your receiver/preamp. (12-volt trigger not available on DSWmicroPRO1000 model.)
You never have to leave your seat while you adjust your subwoofer to its optimum performance level with the DSWmicroPRO remote controller.
Multiple professional connection options include professional 5-way binding posts and easily accessible LFE, line- and speaker-level inputs, and speaker level outputs, allow easy connection to virtually any system.
“Night Mode” setting temporarily lowers the sub’s intensity.
DSWmicroPRO Series subwoofers blend perfectly with systems composed of other Polk Audio loudspeakers. Build the system of your dreams, and then add the perfectly blended, deep musical low end that takes it over the top!
The unique design of our floor-coupling subwoofer feet keeps your subwoofer stable and steady even at radical volume levels, for more efficient use of power. No more “escaped washing machine” syndrome.
The Consumer Electronics Association made it easier for you to more accurately compare the performance specs of subwoofers by providing a “Loud & Low” specification. Polk Audio was one of the first subwoofer manufacturers to comply with this specification, which helps separate the men from the boys when it comes to big bass. (We’re mostly on the men’s side of this.) Check out our CEA “Loud & Low” specifications on the specs pages of each model.
All Polk Audio products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk Audio loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

Solid Deep Bass with NO DISTORTION! Sub has phase settings, volume control on remote control, easy to setup.
Weaknesses:
The bass hits so hard it dances across my tile floor. I had to use a foam carpet mat to keep it where I wanted it... All in all this sub has no weakness.. just anchor it to the floor and crank up the volume and ENJOY!
Review:
The best sub you will ever come across in this era. If you want a hard hitting sub - that hits every bass note with solid definition then this sub is for you. This sub is small sized but mighty. It can take all you dish out at it and more. It is defined, clear and sold low bass. If you want a great sub and can afford the price buy one, or two like I have. I am a bass enthusiast and this thing rocks - PEB Techmaster Bass Cd's make this sub rock hard..

Remote needs to be aimed "dead on" at sensor. On some material, will floor children and small animals, lol!
Review:
My experience with Polk Audio Micropro 4000 Subs Usually, within a half days time, I can set up the sound on my latest speaker system purchase....but the subs are a whole different story. I have spent on and off up to 1-2 weeks getting the subs tuned into the room. As an aside, and more than the speakers, I found that subs never sound like they do (which was usually not that good) at HiFi stores. Additionally, I feel a lot of salesman are not even knowledgeable enough to even know how to set up a sub. I think they just plug them in, and go. Also, the rooms where the subs are in these stores are sometimes way larger...ceilings way higher than than in most homes...and of course, the changed room acoustics when you take it home....changes everything. So the point is, what you hear at the store is not what you're going to hear at home. At one time, and within my price range, I was the most impressed with the Velodyne SPL-1200 and bought one. Later, after reading the merits of running two subs, I sold the 1200, and purchased two Velodyne SPL-1000's which I still have. Before these I had purchased a Klipsch Sub-12 (down firing). I was never totally happy with any one of these subs for all applications. I found that I liked the down firing sub better for movies, but disliked the more muddy transients in the bass for music. On the other hand, I like the Velo's much better for music, but they didn't hit with quite the same impact as the down firing Klipsch on movies (i.e., canonball explosions on the ship deck on "Master and Commander"). I have never been a fan of Polk subs. They just never performed at a level that I wanted. I tried several of them and gave up. However, when I purchased the Micropro 4000 my impression of Polk Subs completely changed. As much as I was intrigued about what I read about the engineering of these subs, I almost didn't buy one based on the design of this subs speaker itself (shallow I know). It just looked too weird, or different from most sub's speakers I'd seen. But somehow I mustered up enough faith in Polk...... took the Polk plunge one more time, and bought one. After getting it and hooking it up, I thought I had really messed up. I did not like it. But, I gave it some time thinking that I was probably judging it against the Velo's that I had become accustomed to hearing. Later, I found that to be exactly the case. I had put it in the same place as one of the Velo's and that just didn't work. It was so different. In the end, I ended up moving it out of the corner of the room and down the wall away from the corner about 3 feet to make it work for the room it was in. But it took me on and off about 1-2 weeks to get all out of this sub that I thought it was capable of, and get it "tuned in" to the room. Only then was I beginning to appreciate how this subs clear dynamic range, and how "universal" it was. When I played the canonball scene in "Master and Commander" where the cannonballs hit the deck of the ship I was not prepared for the power and impact that I got from this rather small sub. OMG, it really nearly knocked me out of my seat! From pictures on the wall to the china cabinet 30 feet way, everything rattled. It was if my house was struck by an earthquake. On "Transforners II" on one of the fight scenes the sub thundered with tremendous power and authority. I really believe the 1200 watts rating on these things is really 1200 watts! I know there are better subs out there, but this is the best HT sub I have experienced so far. Anyway, I was anxious to try it on music, and played a couple of cuts of Billy Sheehan playing with Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert. Billy is probably one of the fastest bassist on the planet and I feel he challenges the response time of any sub. I felt that the Micropro 4000 handled him as good as the Velo's. Very impressive. The first music CD I tested was the SACD version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". When I listened to the cut "Time" those low notes struck with impressive power, tone, and clarity. The tom rolls on the drums that Nick Mason plays here sounded extremely nice with a lot of tone and power. The Micropro was making my whole LSi speaker system sound better. I then tried track #4 "Animals" from Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" CD. On Nickeback, this sub really shined. The power of Nickelback's lows in the sound really came across with a lot punch. This sub just seems to throw it out at you. I then played the SACD of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exibition" performed by the Chicago Symphony with Fritz Reiner, conductor. Low pitched orchestral stringed instruments in my opinion are hard for subs to get right on blending with speakers, as are also low organ tones. A cheaper sub, or sub not set up right, can actually detract from the fidelity of the music especially if you have some higher quality speakers. Again, all I can say here is........ very impressive. I was so impressed in fact that I ended up buying another one of these subs. As this point, my experience is that the Micropro 4000's can handle anything you throw at them....and for their size they handle it well. This is the only sub I have owned so far that has satisfied me as being equally capable on both music and movies. It does both very very well. It front fires, but also has a uniquely designed fluid filled 12x12 bass radiator on the bottom that helps this sub to hit low and hard. I think this has something to do with why it works with so many formats. It is a shame that Polk has a reputation for lower quality subs. I think this fact has "turned off" most of the professional reviewers from even testing the Micropros. It certainly has not gotten the press it deserves. To date, and in my experience thus far, it is the best sub I've ever purchased under a 1000.00.

Power, sound and ... looks nice.
Weaknesses:
A little bit complicated to find the right way for the subwoofer balance between audio and video sound at the same time. (means bass is sometimes for video to much (to hear especially in comercials)
Review:
This subwoofer is awsome. You have a clear bass, no distortions and you are able to hear all instruments and voices better and cleaner like befor. For the first time you can say, this sub has a sound, no boom boom.

I really could not find any weakness with this sub. I will be buying one very soon.
Review:
I went to a party the other night and I heard two of these hooked up with a pair of Polk VM30's. I was just blown away by these subs. They are really Musical, not just some booming bass machine that moves your house but they actually have a really good range. I currently Have a Sunfire Sub that I paid $1800 for 5 years ago and I will be buying 1 of these DSW microPRO 4000's this year to replace the sunfire.

The looks, sound.
Weaknesses:
I can't stand the remote control. You can have it pointed directly at the sensor 3 feet away pressing the volume button and nothing will happen. Don't know if it is a defective controller or if I am not good at pointing and pushing. I don't use the oontroller anymore. Only works about a 1/10th of the time. I don't like having to press the volume button and then have to wait for the lights to start blinking to see where it is set at.
Review:
Overall the best sounding sub I have heard in a long time. I bought a entire LSI setup. The LSI 15's, LSI center, and the LSI F/X's. All hooked up to a Marantz SR-7002. Absolutely no complaints as far as sound goes. I would recommend the LSI's to anyone.

All I can say is that within 2 hrs of having this thing on, I received knocks on my apartment door. Right out of the box this thing was ready to go! It's paird with a Onkyo TX-NR906, (2) RTi A7, (2) FXi A4, and (1) CSi A4. I removed the wires from everything but the center channel speaker & Sub...and watched Blade II, Transformers, and Saving Private Ryan. This sub actually shook the wall while at just about the lowest setting. I will definitely buy another soon.

Incredible subwoofer. I have 2 of these paired with 2 emotiva xpa1 mononlocks, an emotiva xpa3, an onkyo nr5007. Speakers are , polk rtia9's, 4 fxia6's, and a csia6. The sound of the subs whether listening to a super audio music cd or watching a blu ray is incredible, and I do mean incredible. I was watching hurt locker and the low bass was beyond mind blowing. The same thing applies on the musical front. You can see mine on my tube video, bryans completed home theater.

Holy earthquake Batman! I've had this sub hooked to a 7.2 (VERY high power) system for almost 2 years. It sets a fine example for the other 8 speakers! Everyone who has listened to this system is immediately blown away. Until I turn off the 4000. If words could describe in writing the warm sensation of one's adult parts being bathed in sonic goodness by Polk Audio's DSWmicroPRO 4000, there would be no need for music. Simply put, this speaker ROCKS!
