Bipole/Dipole In-Ceiling Surround
The LC80F/X is specifically designed to be a surround speaker in a high-performance theater or multi-channel music system. Sporting two ring radiator tweeters and an 8-inch high performance driver in an angled array, with surround-specific bipole/dipole audio customization options, this is the perfect choice for big audio impact from above.
LC80F/X Features:
Surround-specific solid/diffuse modes: In “Solid” mode, all drivers and tweeters are in-phase, producing a solid, discrete sound-stage. In the “Diffuse” setting, the rear facing tweeter array is out of phase with the front facing array for a more diffuse, less localizable, surround-sound image. Use the setting that sounds best for your placement and application (and if you can’t decide, we can help!).
Paintable grilles let you build them in, and then forget all about them; LCi Series practically disappear into any room.
Dual, offset ring radiator tweeters extend top-end response for incredible details, with a 15° swivel housing for direct high frequency control and excellent imaging even in off-axis listening positions.
Our aerated polypropylene cone is the ideal balance of lightweight stiffness (for more efficient action with less distortion-causing flex) and superior damping properties, for spectacular midrange clarity and punchy bass.
Polk Audio’s proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance® technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
Lightweight, rigid driver baskets constructed of specially engineered composite materials keep moving parts in rigid alignment and damp performance-robbing resonances for better performance in shallow space installs.
Easily accessible custom audio controls allow you to tweak your sound for optimum performance in any installation: Use the reflective room (tweeter) compensation switch to digitally compensate for harsh reflective surfaces, and the wall distance setting toggle to compensate for proximity to corners or adjacent walls.
PowerPort® bass venting is Polk Audio’s patented design for smoothly transitioning the air flow from the port into your listening area, eliminating turbulence and distortion, for bigger, more efficient, deep bass impact.
Rustproof stainless steel hardware and powder coated aluminum grilles make LCi Series speakers suitable for high moisture areas like bathrooms, transitional spaces or even under eaves or in the ceiling of an enclosed porch. (LCi Series are not suitable for exposed outdoor use. For outdoor speaker fun, use our Atrium® Series.)
LCi Series speakers are timbre-matched to Polk Audio LSi speakers to insure utterly seamless blending from speaker to speaker in systems that combine traditional and built-in speakers.
LCi Series speakers are packaged one-per-box, so you can use singles as front or rear center channels, or as additional-zone speakers anywhere.
Easy one-cut, drop-in installation puts built-in audio within reach, with Perfect Fit templates, a precision flange, and (available) pre-construction brackets; achieve secure, vibration-free efficiency with a simple turn of the patented Rotating Cam system.
All Polk Audio products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk Audio loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

What more can I say? great product, great value!
Weaknesses:
The LC80FX is not linked from Polk's LSi web pages... It is lost on their site unless you know what you are looking for... Were it not for this oversight, this speaker would be much more widely known... Fix your pages Polk!
Review:
The LC80-FX in ceiling surround speakers allowed me to complete the transition from LSI-15 based audiophile stereo sound to full 5.1 LSI audiophile surround. Surround is fantastic, with a seamless transition from the fronts, center, and surrounds. The voice matching is superb, making this set-up a joy to listen to (or should I say experience?). Powering with Denon AV-2808 with 7 channels at 110 watts per channel with the rear channels reassigned to bi-amp the LSi-15 fronts. It works so well we want to watch movies every night! Thanks to Polk Audio for producing the LSi-LCi series!

Compatable with other 4 ohm 88db speakers in the Polk line. (LSI series).Fairly high wattage capacity. Only dipole speakers with two tweeters in this size speaker.
Weaknesses:
Fairly high power requirements into a 4 ohm load. Not really a weakness but amp needs to be sized accordingly.
Review:
First of all I was very reluctan to buy these. No issues with Polk as I am running the LSI series on the fronts. I was reluctant because their are no reviews on this product and it is not shown as a recommended speaker in Polks surround channel sytems on their web site. Well, fears are gone. These speakers a outstanding. I looked at Polks smaller speakers was glad I went with the large ones. At least in my system I have to run the rears and sides +4 to +6db and thses peakers are capable of doing that. Great sound that fills the area as opposed to isolating the sound to the speaker. Am running LSI sides and center with two of Polks dual 10" subs stacked on top of each other. Amp is Mcintosh rated at 200 watts into 4 ohms. For those that are interested, at fairly high volume levels the Mcintosh meters are reading less than 20w. At very high levels it will push on up but a good quality 100w into 4 ohm amp may do the trick.
