LC80i
Round 2-way in-ceiling loudspeaker.
The In-Ceiling Musical Wonder
Use your imagination here: Picture (even though you can’t really “see” it) a home theater system that consists of nothing, no speakers at all! And yet, you’re flooded with sound, washed over by ambience, pinpoint details, realistic, enveloping imaging. How can this be? It can be, with the LC80i in-ceiling loudspeaker, a two-way wonder that performs like a traditional loudspeaker, but disappears almost completely into your ceiling taking up absolutely no room real estate. With a big offset-8-inch driver and a custom-directional and controllable ring radiator tweeter, this in-ceiling speaker can seriously be the foundation of a complete in-ceiling system. You’ll never hear a more flexible high performance in-ceiling speaker.
LC80i Features:
Paintable grilles let you build them in, and then forget all about them; LCi Series practically disappear into any room.
Enhanced, reengineered ring radiator tweeters extend top-end response for incredible details, with a 15° swivel housing for direct high frequency control and excellent imaging even in off-axis listening positions.
Our aerated polypropylene cone is the ideal balance of lightweight stiffness (for more efficient action with less distortion-causing flex) and superior damping properties, for spectacular midrange clarity and punchy bass.
Polk Audio’s proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance® technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
Lightweight, rigid driver baskets constructed of specially engineered composite materials keep moving parts in rigid alignment and damp performance-robbing resonances for better performance in shallow space installs.
Easily accessible custom audio controls allow you to tweak your sound for optimum performance in any installation: Use the reflective room (tweeter) compensation switch to digitally compensate for harsh reflective surfaces, and the wall distance setting toggle to compensate for proximity to corners or adjacent walls.
PowerPort® bass venting is Polk Audio’s patented design for smoothly transitioning the air flow from the port into your listening area, eliminating turbulence and distortion, for bigger, more efficient, deep bass impact.
Rustproof stainless steel hardware and powder coated aluminum grilles make LCi Series speakers suitable for high moisture areas like bathrooms, transitional spaces or even under eaves or in the ceiling of an enclosed porch. (LCi Series are not suitable for exposed outdoor use. For outdoor speaker fun, use our Atrium® Series.)
LCi Series speakers are timbre-matched to Polk Audio LSi speakers to insure utterly seamless blending from speaker to speaker in systems that combine traditional and built-in speakers.
LCi Series speakers are packaged one-per-box, so you can use singles as front or rear center channels, or as additional-zone speakers anywhere.
Easy one-cut, drop-in installation puts built-in audio within reach, with Perfect Fit templates, a precision flange, and (available) pre-construction brackets; achieve secure, vibration-free efficiency with a simple turn of the patented Rotating Cam system.
All Polk Audio products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk Audio loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

The clarity of the highs is amazing and the bass response is, well, unbelieveable.

In three words, THESE THINGS ROCK! I purchased these about a year ago for my living room in our new house. My wife, God love her, didn't want any visable electronic equipment in this quite formal room, hence the in-ceiling speakers. The room itself has 20 ft ceilings. I was concerned that the height of the ceiling would render any stealth speakers marginal sounding at best. Wow, was I suprised when I turned them on! Not only do they sound great at background music levels, but will not distort if I crank up an old Boston or Heart CD! I strongly recommend these bad boys! Thanks Polk, you guys never disappoint!

The tweeter is a true breakthrough highs are excellent; as to the midrange the first thing my wife said was wow! These really do voices better than anything we have ever had. Also the space savings are near priceless
Weaknesses:
If anything in stalling and setup are a bit more complex. It takes a little guts and hard work to install and set up but the results are worth it.
Review:
First let me say that I have been a fan of Polk speakers before and especially since my first Polk purchase of the LS90 some 15 years ago. The LS90's blew away my so called 'audiophile' or 'high end' Martin Logan sequel II's and everything I had owned to date by every measure. I sold the LS90's and replaced them with the LSi9's 2 years ago and bounce back and forth between a Velodyne and Polk 505 sub and it works well with both. BTW I just bought a set of LC60i's for the kitchen... I installed the LC80i's in the living room on the top floor ceiling with an open attic above them. The cut out template worked perfectly with a key hole hand saw to cut the drywall. The LC80i's just simply put the music in the room. Imaging is excellent, space, effortless presentation, full frequency range well represented in all respects. They compare very well to my LSi9's and work well with a sub crossed over at a low freq. such as 80 or less.

Sound clarity, size, ease of installation.
Weaknesses:
None really, serial number should be placed in the front inside so you don't have to take the speaker down to register it.
Review:
These speakers sound good. I was expecting speakers that would not sound good wihtout a subwoofer, I'm impressed. Even without turning my sub on these sopeaker fill the whole room with sound, very clear too.

Great detail and imaging for SACD's and DVD audio tracks. Excellent bass for in-ceiling speakers. Easy to install yourself.

Review:
Excellent in-ceiling speaker. I used the DVD Underworld to demo for my brother in law. He kept looking behind the seating area, and finally asked where the back sub-woofer was. I told him there is no back sub, but the LC80i's in the ceiling have great bass. But, they also have a perfect tonal match to the rest of the LCi series - and the excellent detail, imaging and transparency that LCi's are known for.

I do not know any "technical" jargon...BUT I can state that the richness, clarity and room filling ability of this speaker IS Spectacular! I have 10 of them in various rooms and it sounds like Carnegie Hall! No distortion low or high, just pure, clean great sound. Money well spent, I love it.
