The triumph of Dynamic Balance
Form follows function in the shape of the LS cabinet. The delicately slanted sides add elegance and style to the appearance while aiding in the breakup of internal standing waves. The cabinet shape also enhances the diffraction control system by narrowing the baffle at the tweeter, creating even greater stability of the stereo image. The structural design of the LS series is reinforced with thick 1" baffles of non-resonant MDF and computer-designed internal bracing systems. These cabinets are rock solid when producing even the deepest bass at high power levels.
The driver cones in the LS series are a polyolefin mineral-based composite like the S series models, but with space-age aramid fibers added for a near perfect stiffness-to-weight ratio. The result is a driver of more musical accuracy. LS models also feature a SL6000 Dynamic Balance 1" trilaminate dome tweeter. Its unique composite dome is produced by a patented vapor deposition process that adds a thin layer of aluminum and stainless steel to the polyamide base. Like the most sophisticated metal dome, it provides greater frequency extension and detail, but with the smooth non-resonant character of soft domes. Finally, as a crowning touch, each LS model is equipped with gold five-way binding posts as connectors, providing long lasting non-oxidizing electrical contact with your amplifier and assuring top performance - now and in the future.
The LS50 combines two new MW7100 Dynamic Balance 6.5" drivers and the SL6000 Dynamic Balance 1" trilaminate dome tweeter in a vented design. This remarkably well-designed and executed loudspeaker is the most compact of the LS Series and a very big performer in every sense of the word. Its extended range and large scale stereo presentation belie its size.

Great sound reproduction and volume capabilities.
Weaknesses:
A slightly weak bass which was corrected with floor spikes, Straightwire Laser-Eight speaker cables and Straightwire Musicable Interconnects.
Review:
Beautifully well-made, tight mid-bass and treble. The slightly weak bass was corrected with floor spikes and Straightwire Laser-Eight speaker cables and Straightwire Musicable Interconnects which made a very seriously dramatic improvement. I no longer have them, but I would like to own them again.

We love our Polks & missed the clarity when we switched to a Bose surround system. We switched back for music!

Great bass, great stereo image, great looking!
Weaknesses:
Would have liked spiked feet for when they were standing on carpet.
Review:
We bought our LS50's in 1995 on a closeout sale and they impressed us so much with their presence and bass that we supplemented them with the CS350 center, LS/FX surrounds and PSW300 subwoofer. This set of Polk speakers were used to build our first Dolby Digital system, way back when it was still known as Dolby Digital AC-3, and only available on laser disc. We love the rosewood lacquer finish on the speakers, and I wish Polk would bring back that finish on their current speakers. Today we still enjoy those same speakers, and I have not found other speakers, even at 2 or 3 times the price, that makes me want to replace these. To me, that means "standing the test of time".

Beautiful crisp, deep, resonant sound. Wonderful match with the powered sub and CS400i. These speakers have a beautiful design and rosewood finish. The RM6600 surrounds complete the system nicely and discreetly fit into small shelf spaces.
Weaknesses:
The base is a little weak....adding a sub fixes that and adds a whole new dimension. The system now sounds full and complete.
Review:
I bought my LS50's many years ago, in the late 80's, after selecting them hands down over other similarly priced mains and the Bose satellite system. I used them for years with satisfaction. I recently added a powered subwoofer, CS400i center and two RM6600 surrounds and have created a stunning home theater system. They match perfectly with the CS400i and equal its clarity and tonal qualities, even after 15 years of use. With the powered sub they sound incredible. I love their resonance, depth and clarity, and the whole system works beautifully for movies and music. It is hard to imagine anything that could match this system for the money. I could not be happier and will only replace them if they wear out. To date, there is no indication that will happen.
