All of the design constraints are perfectly balanced to provide a dynamic, neutral sound that can be very realistic.
Weaknesses:
These speakers will highlight all of the faults of your electronics, cables, and set-up. It is easy to then mistake these faults for weaknesses in the LS-90s.
Review:
I have owned my LS-90s for about 10 years. During that time, I have continously been looking at upgrades for my stereo system. I have replaced my CD player at least four times, my amp two times, and every cable in my system at least twice. With each upgrade to my system, the LS-90s sounded better and better. I was always able to easily tell the differences between products I compared and was able to spot both the gems and the fakes. I have looked at replacing the LS-90s several times, but have never found a speaker that equaled the polks in all areas. Much more expensive speakers often better the LS-90s in one or two areas, but they usually also have some major flaw. The LS-90s are not the best speakers in the world at any one thing, but they are really, really good at all aspects of music production. This gives them a better overall sound with a wide variety of music than any other speaker I have auditioned.

believe me i checked out many speakers. i have used these speakers for over 5 years. Still as great as when i first purchased them. I utilize MITerminator 2 speaker cables to a yamaha 3090 surround processor. also the best customer service hands down. "nothing but polk."

Great all round sound. I searched for months to find the right cross ramge sounding speakers. These won hands down (and I bought them second hand 12 months ago. Still one of the best.
Weaknesses:
The only real weakness I have found is the shape of the speaker tower. It's difficult to match other cabinets.
Review:
Fantastic Sound

clean, controlled, and tight bass. treble that is very effortless, and natural.
Weaknesses:
low extension is a rolls off early (but only slightly weak), but blends natural with a good subwoofer
Review:
landed a pair of these for $750 brand new when i was overseas in the army. mated it with the cs250 center and some mini polks, yamaha av3090 . Truley a great combo for my price range! great control on all types of music, and the best tight controlled bass ive ever had. after the surround system went away i paired these with a classic carver preamp power amp set... cant remember which amp, but with sonic holo and a power amp that flickered all the lights in my apartment these speakers came to life.... still kick myself in the a$$ for selling them ...and the carver setup :(

Great imaging. Smooth highs. Superb Midrange. Great looks. Value for the $$.
Weaknesses:
Wish real wood veneer was used, although in their defense they still look brand new after all these years of service.
Review:
I had them connected to an ONKYO surround receiver @ 100 w/p/c in stereo and 80 w/p/c in surround mode.I recently tied them to a more pwerful amplifier at 200 w/p/c connected to the pre-amp-out section on the ONKYO, a vintage ADCOM 555-II to be more precise. I also added an 18 inch sub, which blends seamlessly with the LS-90's. The LS-90's were great before this upgrade. Now they are superb. A bigger soundstage and more detail can be heard. The sounds really jump out and I feel like sitting at front row in front of the orchestra. The improvement is such that I am upgrading my turntable and dusting off my old vinyl, in which I'm discovering sounds an nuances I did not hear before. These speakers can definitely benefit with as much clean power as you can afford to give them. I love'em.

Once again polk proves it knows hi fi sound like no other. LOVE IT!!
Weaknesses:
Come on guys lets make those plastic cabinet embellishments so they'll last.
Review:
I purchased a used set of LS90's about a month ago. My initial impression on construction was a bit disappointing as the plastic frame around the screens had inadequate and cheaply engineered attachment points. I dont expect that the screens will stand up a single mishap so beware. But when I plugged in and played a few cd's the sound of these speakers were enough to quickly forget about polks need to better construct their cabinet screens for long term use(hint, hint). 1/4 volume of my 110w made these speakers come alive with extreme clarity and balance. I can only image what 200w will make these things do. Coming from my Polk Monitor 7's I was used to a lot of deep smooth base so I was hoping for the same from the LS90's. Instead I got not so deep but still smooth and VERY tight bass.....the kind that goes really well for theatre sound. You will need to add a sub of course but with that addition I think you'll find you own the speakers that will keep you content until you decide to go SDA's.

Everything! (except the grills and frames)
Weaknesses:
Grill and grill frames are very delicate.
Review:
I just found a used pair of LS90's and have been listening to them for about a week now. I can't believe that a pair of 15 year old speakers (approximate) could sound as exceptional as these do and after getting them positioned right, I am astounded with what I hear coming from these monsters! THEY ARE CLEAN! I also have a pair of SDA-2B's (in storage right now). One of these days I'll dust them off and do some comparisons! Long Live Polk!

Very neutral, almost future proof. Bi-wire capable.
Weaknesses:
Only the components connected to them. Better binding posts?
Review:
Enjoyed these great rewarding speakers since 1995, and they keep getting better with other component advancements. I have them bi-wired to a 225 watt two channel Nakamichi PA-II amp with Tara Labs RSC prime speaker cable, pre-amped with Monster M550i interconnects to a Rotel RSX 1065 reciever.

Dynamics, air sense between instruments.
Weaknesses:
Depending of the placement, space available around and equipement you could be in trouble.
Review:
I have them since 1996 they have travelled with me for a long time. I think I am a bit late for the review but I was supposed to sell them this week. Like it was said in other reviews the equipement behind the speakers and the space available sometimes do a lot. For 4 years I had the Proac tablette 2000 and I have since change my amp for a hafler 9500, musical fidelity 3.1cd and home made tube preamp. So before selling the speakers I had to listen to them. The biggest change was the speaker to let air between the instrument and the dynamics was way better than the proac so I have decided to kept them and sell the proac. Also it is important to have a lot of space around them and for the muddy bass I have put straws in the bass port in the back. Also putting them on spikes and a granit slab help to have a more define soundstage.

- Clear even sounds - Easy to listen to no fatigue to the ears. - The Dynamic Balance from Polk Audio allows for great sound form the modest of amps - The uses of gold plated four way terminals, rubber surround speakers, and the solid build cabinet are testimony to the quality.
Weaknesses:
The speaker covers need to be improved, easy to damage.
Review:
Purchased new in 1993 I have used them in a surround system and main system. The sound is very smooth I find that the lows, midds, and highs blend evenly across the audible spectrum. The speakers are able to play various genres of music. I enjoy listing from Rock-Roll to Smooth Jazz. The sounds are clear and crisp, with no muddiness. If you like to “Bang your head” with Rock-in-Roll, or just relax and mellow out with Jazz the LS-90 is the speaker for you.

True quality sound and power capability. Clean design and great craftsmanship.
Weaknesses:
Since '94 I can't think of one.
Review:
Of all our speaks in the past 36 years we have owned. The LS 90's are the cleanest and most efficient, as well as good looking, speakers we have owned in the last 36 years. Bought them new from Magnolia HiFi here in the seattle area in '94. Now powered with Adcom equiptment. They give us all we need and more. Even my kids like the clean, solid sound. You'd have to fight my wife for them though. TNX...Mike&Mel
